he deserves to keep his job after GB game

i hope we invest some draft capital on some return specialist and hopefully and give him another chance

I don't agree that should save his job it I sure hope they bring someone else in to at least help.

Having one good ST game in what 4-5 years isn't enough.

100% agreed. He's been given like 3 or 4 college record breaking returners and they've ALL regressed here. That alone speaks to his coaching, philosophy and development ability. The oppositions gunners are almost always first down to force a fair catch or make the tackle too.

No way one good game should prevent him from being fired. I'd love to see an upgrade here, but I have a feeling the Packers game may have just saved his ass lol. Here's to having one of the worst special teams In the league again next season.

I share this concern too. LOL

It's not just that they were among the worse units- even the philosophy is bad. Was it in week 18 or the Cowboys game where the commentator said Kyle just doesn't want to lose on special teams? You can play that kind of conservative ball, but in order for it to work, you have to be air tight. You need to play mistake free football. Your punter, when punting from within your 30 should be punting 60 yards or something. Launch that thing. We don't play disciplined enough to be conservative on special teams. We don't kick well enough, don't block well enough, don't cover well enough. It's like a team trying to play ball control with their running backs, but your RBs have a fumbling problem, take the wrong holes, always try to go outside and not follow the blocking, etc.

He does not IMO.
GB were the worst in the league in this phase.
Our special team unit was stacked with talent from Bosa to Deebo to Willis who had just returned from injury.
What play has he ever designed that we know came up with something special? We know he had plenty of the opposite prior to this game.

But if you think he should stay because he became resilient to the extreme and deserved criticism he garnered during the season then you are right. He is a better cheer leader than the guy who got sacked in Green Bay.

Does it really matter anyway since the NFL has enlisted the cancel culture on this phase.

Great points. Totally agreed.

ShanaLynch got a front row seat from us and other teams on how important this unit is to winning.

Now let's see how serious they are about winning it all.

Imagine if we had a ST that gave the defense great field position, that could flip a field consistently, etc.

This!!! How were we not very good in ST bc of the returners alone? I hoped the beat reporters would keep drilling Shanahan in every press conference about the possibility of a change at special teams
HE IS GONE !!!!

1. He told them he was leaving for the Bears and not returning. Or 2. The 49ers told him they are not renewing his contract, and he interviewed with Bears under the radar. Or 3) It was a mutual parting. I'm betting on 2.
