Starting an NFL Franchise today, Shanny or McVay?

At the time, Shanahan would be my choice. He had seen a lot more football in a lot more places. McVay now has the huge advantage of not having to seriously look at defense at all. If he had not had Wade Philips, where would he be?

Also, I will take Shanahan's offensive concepts over McVay. Kyle is getting near practice squad guys running wide open where McVay relies on a heavy run game and some very good quality WRs. Does anyone think any of our WRs would start in LA?

Too many apples/oranges going on but an interesting thread nonetheless.

Meh, Phillips has the Rams 19th in yards and 18th in pts allowed and that is with the excellent field position the offense gives him.
The one without Jed as their owner.
I'd take Kyle, the edge I give McVay is that I think he brings more energy and enthusiasm.

Kyle is more methodical so I can see people thinking it's more fun to play for McVay, but I think if you listen to both you learn more from Kyle.

IMO Kyle is a better play caller and better at exploiting weaknesses.

Actually, thinking about the OP I think I'd rather build from scratch with McVay, I think he'd be easier to work for and bring a better environment, I think Kyle is the better OC though.
Mcvay by a landslide. At least he knows how to hire qualified assistants and coordinators. Mcvay with Kyle as an OC would be great.

so... what happens with beathard? by your logic, Shanahan should've been an to make him into a superstar. the way McVay has done with that "bust" Goff.

Dude, did you watch Goff vs the Bears?

McVay's been covering for Goff for two seasons.

We tried to hire Brian Flores, Vic Fangio and Gus Bradley before settling for Saleh.

How many times do we have to go over this?

Right he passed all those guys to take his future starter at pick 104. Clearly the plan all along.

oh, that's right. One bad game for any non-9er QB = BUST!

9er QB has multiple bad seasons = tons of potential, just needs the right OC and to gel with his WRs.

It would be a head scratcher for me if Shanny keeps Saleh next year unless you guys think there has been improvement and a lot of upside in Saleh.
Shanahan, but that is no knock on McVay. McVay walked into a great situation and is good enough to make things happen (with a great supporting staff and roster) since day one. Very similar to Harbaugh's arrival in San Francisco, except the offense is better and the defense is slightly inferior in L.A. in 2017 than it was in S.F. in 2011.

Conversely, Shanahan walked into a broken situation that wasn't going to be fixed in two off-seasons without a perfect series of events. As we know there have not been a perfect series of events as mistakes have been made (ST, RF, etc.), but there are also elements outside of Shanahan's control (injuries, etc.) that he can't reasonably be assigned blame for (HC or not). I mean s**t just f**king happens sometimes. In spite of everything Shanahan consistently puts his players in positions to win. Whether they succeed or not is up to their capabilities. We just don't have enough depth and don't have enough impact players to overcome injuries and stupidity. The man has done well. He is a miracle worker in many ways, but he is not God. Which is to say he has gotten the most our of the crap he has had than anyone else could have.

just following up on the Jimmy G vs MaHomes thread. It's just "Water Cooler Talk."

Don't care about the other team fans. How many other teams out there have 5 rings? Who's laughing now? ;)

I love those 5 rings but they were an awful long time ago. The last one was 23 years ago which means a lot of fans on on this forum either weren't alive or were too young to remember. They need a new dynasty to cheer for just like Levi's needs to build it's own memories.

People laugh at us for bragging about 5 rings from prior ownership 24 years ago.
