Success means losing assistants, just the way it goes...it's a good thing actually

DC would be a considerable upgrade

Can't do that s**t forever though. Tried with Scangarello but changed his mind.
We are literally playing the same defensive backs from last season, but the performance is dramatically different. I know we now have the pass rush, but such a dominant defensive performance in the 5 games can't just be pass rush.

Sherman
Witherspoon
Tartt
Ward
K Williams

We had all these guys last season until some of them went on IR. Even backups such as Moseley, Moore, DJ Reed, Harris were here last season.

There were some coincidence. Sherman is one year removed from Thea Achilles injury. We didn't have anyone to challenge Witherspoon for the starting job last season, maybe partly the reason why he had the sophomore slump. But still the overall improvement is simply amazing.
Joe Woods appreciation thread. A lot of praise for Saleh which is well deserved and I also hear people praising Kris Koucerek as they should as he is arguably the best D-Line coach in The NFL.

But how about some love for first year Secondary Coach AND Passing Game coordinator, Joe Woods. The Db's look totally different this year. Yes the pass rush obviously helps but they are playing with so much better technique and after several years, finally playing the ball. Ahkello was playing at pro bowl level after being benched last year. Jimmie Ward is playing his best football in Gus career as is J Tartt who is playing at pro bowl level. Then Woods has guys like E-Man (Emmanuel Mosley) coming in and playing at a high level. K'Wuan Williams is playing his best football and D.J Reed has been solid when he is in there. Plus, Joe Woods helps Saleh with the game planning and even calls.

Big kudos to Joe Woods fellas
Saleh's replacement if/when he gets a HC job.

I was pondering the same thing earlier. IF we keep up the winning Kyle will need to be prepared to promote guys or lose them.

100% and thl/JD have been highlighting the different coverage schemes this year in the film room. The first sign for me was that he instantly moved Moore back to FS and Reed back to the slot. Finally, a DB coach who was putting players in their natural positions and then, what he's done with them afterwards...wow! I haven't seen position coaching like this since Fangio was here where they could take street FA's and get quality play out of them. Nobody looks looks, sticky coverage and communication is excellent pre and post snap.

The positive thing is that I think Shanahan can find other talented coaches to replace them with. If someone is hiring, that means someone was firing and you'll have a bunch of former coordinators looking for position coach jobs ala Woods this past offseason.

Good position coaches that can TEACH are so valuable. As you said, it is the same guys as last season but playing like different guys.

Also, give credit to Shanahan for recognizing he needed better coaches for both the secondary and the DL and he picked some good ones.
