Hope Wes Welker is in SF for a long time, absolutely love it seeing him coach the receivers. I have no doubt the receivers respect him and his play as a Pro.

I'm sure the receivers respect him or at least they should. I think we have to wait and see if Welker can actually coach. Just because he was a good receiver doesn't mean he knows how to transfer his knowledge to other players. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

The one thing Welker knows is that it takes a lot of work to play at this level. He went undrafted in 2004 and had to work his way onto the Chargers. He had to refine all the details in order to play, unlike guys like Julio and OBJ who came in with extraordinary physical gifts.
Read that coach Welker wants Samuel to lose some weight in case he plays slot. Anyone else think that's not a good idea? I thought one of Samuel's ideal traits was being a strong receiver who runs like an RB and tough to bring down.

Eventually Welker wants every WR on the team to be down to his size.

IIRC, Jerry Rice played at a body fat percentage of less than 5%.

Fat doesn't make you tougher. It just slows you down.

Extra fat doesn't make you any tougher. It just sounds like Welker wants him better conditioned overall.
Samuel always looked kinda chunky to me in pads, glad they're making him lose weight
no, Welker is doing it to help him lose weight so that he can have more short area quickness if he's used in the slot...

anything under 5% body fat is deathly...
We are talking ten lbs if that and not of muscle. Its about getting a little more shimmy in his game, it isn't going to take strength off him.

Spot on dj. I also believe that players have a different respect for coaches who were former players, especially like you said, the ones who had to grind from the get go and them carve out a career like Wes had
