All offenses has their strong points and weak points. Just from my layman's viewpoint, the problem with that offense is a lack of fast strike power. Get ahead of them to where they have to pass more than run, and they become vulnerable. Also the QB takes some really hard hits. Etc...

West Coast offense never got figured out.
There is counters to every kind of scheme. Now whether you have the personnel to stop a particular player running a particular scheme is another matter.

You can have an 8 man front against earl Campbell running 3 yards for a first down, and earl will still win 9 times out of 10. Or a dime defense against jerry rice and he'd still most likely beat it.

Again the Baltimore offense is slow. 3 tight ends and mostly running. Vrabel used a 8 man front and it worked. Whalla, there is the counter to the baltimore offense.

Hitches his wagon to a gimmick qb also. Cannot wait to see ravens get torn apart because of the film on Lamar this year. I do not understand these coaches thinking the running qb gimmick will work. Cam Newton is literally twice the athlete Kap was who is more of an athlete than Lamar by far and struggles to win big.

Lies and more lies.

Lamar is one of the best athletes to ever lace them up. His tape looks like it's on 2x. He's more sudden with the ball in his hands than anyone since Barry Sanders, and he's got a cannon arm.

That isn't taking anything away from Kap, but he's not in Lamar's arena unless we're only talking pure arm strength or straight line speed, in which case, they might be comparable.

Bottom Line: Mobile QBs put incredible stress on defenses. Lose contain, lose the game. And good luck playing man coverage.

I can't believe anyone would call it a gimmick when athletic dual threat QBs are practically monopolizing the MVP race.

Hmmm. Wow it's that easy, huh? I guess you're right. It's not like Lamar led the league in TD passes or anything...

I'm sure a lot of DC's thought about it but, they didn't try it because it's a risky kind of approach to a team like Baltimore, but lo and behold, it worked! Just like how the Rams were defended in the playoffs last year by Bellicheat, boom, Sean's team didn't even make the playoffs this year.

I think efficient pocket passers with some mobility will always be king in the NFL. I think what franchises will start doing is drafting running qbs for 2-3 year championship windows sandwiched between longer 10 year windows if they can find their next good pocket Qb.
Not gonna lie, I was completely sold on the Ravens being the superbowl champs this year because of Lamar. That's why I shocked when they got bounced by the Titans.

It's a gimmick cause he will get dinged one of these days. And now your qb is out for 8 weeks. That's why no one plays this.

I've been watching Jackson since his time at Louisville and he has an uncanny ability to avoid the BIG hit. Yeah he takes hits, but not anymore than the average pocket passer. Every team goes in with the gameplan of unloading on him and no one to this point has really been able to do it consistently. Jackson is like a souped up Michael Vick in his running ability where he's got the homerun speed but also the vision and change of direction ability of a top RB. He's going to be a problem for years to come.

To be fair there's some truth to the Russell Wilson thing because before he'd run the option often but because his line is so bad he's taken some beatings and while he's mobile he's not running designed runs like he used to anymore because of the toll the hits have taken on him

When's the last time an MVP won a superbowl in the same season

Pete Carroll was on record this year saying they dont turn Wilson and his legs loose until the 2nd half because he needs to tire out the DL first

That cost Seattle in the GB game because as great as Wilson played he was basically limited to a half of football and they ran out of time

Wilson is getting older and losing some of his elite athleticism

It is slowly but surely impacting his play
