The pure definition of "You had one job".
There must have been something going on besides a bad game. Dude looked distraught on the sideline. Like he was having a mental breakdown. This might have been something going on behind the scenes for a while and it finally came to a head on Sunday. He already had that suspension last year. Just wasn't reliable anymore I guess. The LS we used last year sucked, so hopefully Pepper is solid. The guys sitting at home unemployed are probably not the greatest options.
Someone should do a documentary about NFL LS's. Nobody knows who they are, yet the teams have this list of available guys to come in for tryouts. Someone is scouting these guys. lol

Yea I think this has to do with more than just football. I hope Nelson comes back from whatever the issue is.

The reason they employ a LS specialist is because its a special skill that must be worked on full time. Its not something that a C can do on the side.
Its a specific skill to snap a ball through your legs in perfect position for a holder or punter to catch it. Skule filled the role in a pinch, but he's not going to be able to take the amount of reps to perfect the art while attending all the OL meetings and working on his blocking technique.
No, of course I don't think I'm the first to think that lol. I still don't think this "special skill" requires 1.5hrs of practice every freaking day. Look It's just a discussion point. On a team that loves and preaches versatility, if our WRs can learn and execute the playbook of all 3 spots, TEs can fill FB and vice versa, DEs can play inside and out etc. You get my drift. Brunskill learned and played all 3 of OT, G, and C.
It's a LOT harder than you think to get to the level of these guys lmao. I can guarantee that every single NFL long snapper has been dedicated to that position for years. There's obviously a reason that people like Skule aren't just filling in on the side.
You mean except for when he did exactly that this past game? And did it better than the guy that got all the reps in practice and has been dedicated to it for years? Long Snappers live on the red light district in the NFL. Look what the dude we signed today been through already. Guess what, we signed him today and he's snapping for us on Sunday
LS needs to be athletic enough to run down for punt coverage/containing the returning/downing the ball. I would not want 300+ pound Skule running up and down the field on punts.
Yes they do, but what does the rest of the line do after the ball is punted?
I am not sure what your point is. That's kind of like saying, "Why not have a backup offensive lineman with soccer background be the kicker? It saves a roster spot, and I mean, even on kickoffs, what do the rest of the guys do after it's kicked?"
What? Dude, Let's just not pretend that kicking and snapping a freaking ball is even in the same stratosphere in terms of difficulty. But for humor, I'll run with it. It's just like having a kicker for extra points. Anything beyond that we need a "specialized" kicker for field goals.

You missed the point lol. I was arguing earlier that the LS needs to be athletic enough to carry value on coverage units. Yeah, sure, Skule could do it, but it's definitely not ideal. His snap was not terribly quick on his one attempt. I wouldn't expect it to be, as that's not his main job, and I don't think it should be.
You are arguing about players pulling double-duty or cross-training to save a roster spot. If you want a more exact example, that would be like suggesting the team cut Gould or Wishnowsky and just have one of the other do both. Why not? Wade Richey punted great when he was asked to in the past. Punter Craig Hentrich was rock solid on field goals while he served double-duty when the Titans kicker was out a few games way back when.
There's plenty of punters out there -- like Pinion for example -- who have a kicking background and expertise, and could do both, or vice versa with kickers. But teams don't do it because it's not ideal and they want to maximize the value at each position instead of sacrificing any value just to have one more roster spot open for a guy who probably isn't going to be active anyway. Really, that's the strongest reasoning I think above all else.

Eh. Too late. I'd say he cost us AZ.
meh, who knows what would have happened if we got the punt off.
but I do know what would have happened if we were able to run it in at the goaline. 6 points that's what.
Or if Jimmy could hit a wide open Bourne.
The loss was on Jimmy. Not one bad punt lol

No the loss was on Shanahan decision to go for it early in the game instead of a field goal. If they did, then at the end of the game they would only need to go for a field goal and not have to force for the end zone. This also changes how the Cards play D. Lot easier to figure when you know they got to pass.
That said, coaches coach, players play. They didn't step up and execute. We all know the OL is still trying to gel. People forget that.

Kyle said today that Nelson had been struggling in practice for a while as well.

He looks kind of like that in the team photo I've seen. The question is this: Is it something he's taken or is there something else going on? I agree with you that something may have happened behind the scenes. Lots of players have a bad game or two. Tons as a matter of fact. Some are just invisible. Look no further than Pettis. Do they get cut? No. So, I would agree that there's something behind the smoke. Usually, its a fire of some sort.
There are some things we never do learn about, however. With some players it remains a mystery.

Wasn't that team photo the previous kicker
Something was way off, these guys usually have pinpoint accuracy with a tight spiral and he was bouncing them. There's something Kyle is not sharing, I was wondering if he broke a finger and strained his forearm, maybe he failed another PED test, either way Kyle was quick to drop him. These specialists get paid a lot of money, so there's no real 2nd and 3rd chances.

Middle of the season? We are three games into the season, with a lot of tough games ahead. You absolutely make changes like this if it can help win close games. I do feel bad for the guy and hope he recovers from whatever is going on though.

I just watched more youtube than I care to admit on long snappers today. What happened this week is seemingly not even possible for a long snapper without some sort of outside factor. Kind of interesting that a lot of long snappers are line backers that were failing to make meaning progress at that position
