Does he have bone-on-bone action going on, or some kind of tendon inflammation?

I don't think it was a mistake to trade for him, but a chronic condition (yes, it's chronic; it's tedonosis) is concerning. Plain and simple.

I'm not fickle... I was ignorant of the situation. If we traded for a dude that won't see the field much, I'd say our front office was ignorant of the situation as well.
Maybe there was some news of this "chronic" injury before the trade, but I sure as s**t didn't see it.
If he misses time for a pre-existing condition, that's a pretty big deal

Will surgery in the off-season fix this?

This isn't anything new with him. He's been playing with it for some time. They just have to manage it and he may need to come out of the game from awhile. It really isn't anything that can be cured and it will most likely shorten his career but that doesn't keep him from being a force when he's in there. When he comes out we can use Blair.

Yes, have surgery in the off season to fix it then trade him away. #fixed.

No. But I think they will continue with PRP therapy and hope that his body responds.

This is not the same condition. This year his tendinitis devolved into tendonosis. It's degenerative, whereas tendinitis is not.

So back to the topic at hand, is he damaged goods or not? At which point will you say the 49ers got value out of the trade? How many sacks would he need to get for you to be satisfied for giving up a 2nd round pick for him?
I'd say no. It's the same as it was in KC. They will always have to manage his snaps. It is what it is. Keep him playing around half the snaps and be careful with how much he is used in practice. Be prepared to develop another edge rusher, because his presence (along with Bosa) has totally transformed this team. We don't want to lose that.
For me, all eyes are on AA and Thomas as the year progresses to see who should be moved. We need picks and can lighten the load at DT. Not a chance we spend an early pick on a pass rusher like Dee Ford, but 4th round is realistic to get a speedy guy to develop as a rotational guy who could start in small stretches later on down the line.
I disagree and I think you can't afford not to continue to invest in that DLine - specially at edge rusher (if there are good ones available like a chase young). I know we probably wont get a chase young, but with a first we should continue to inveest in the edge rusher position.
you can see how different the Seifert/Carroll defense is with a credible pass rush. Personally I think you can get good DT's in the mid rounds (a la Julian Taylor) but you can only get good edge rushers via 1st through 3rd drounds (Landry, Obo, Celene etc...).
I'd love to do that. But we have no 2nd round pick. We have no viable replacement for Staley. We could use a guard. We can't keep putting off Oline. I'm all for continue to drafting pass rushers, but draft resources aren't unlimited. Are you willing to forego another season of not getting a tackle?

Stop practicing him and only play him on sundays. That's what Andy Reid did last year

Have guys seen Garrett from Cleveland tonight.... imagine skule against that beast... I shudder the thought... we need a nfl left tackle asap
