The Niners' defense (which is a hybrid of a 4-3 and 3-4 defense.... is three guys in the three point position and one in a two point position at the snap, usually on the weakside....the RDE spot.....the Elephant). The Niners do flip the elephant back and forth on both right and left sides, even though traditionally they are racing around the LT.

However, I saw more snaps with all four down lineman in a three point stance, even on base downs. So, the defense has some flexibility.

Bosa played heavily at LDE (the strongside DE) at OSU, which would allow Ford to be the Leo, or Elephant, in this system. I just don't know the Niners are going to give up on both Armstead and Thomas as base-down defenders. Hence, my skepticism they are going to pick Bosa......but, who knows. I could be totally wrong. I just see much bigger issues in the secondary.

aren't we playing more wide 9 moving forward?

Just was hoping for Houston...didn't have to give up a pick for him...better overall play when it comes to the run...

The 49ers main issue is rushing the QB. Ford was among the best in football at doing it this past season. Houston is older, slower and will still cost a huge chunk of change.

Plus Houston might not like us too much

Why not both? We can certainly afford both guys. Personally, I'm happy that the Ford deal happened and the OBJ one didn't. The flexibility we now have with the 2nd pick is salivating.

Because you're not locking up close to $40 million in two players on long deals. They still have to address CB. WR will be addressed via the draft.

When you have the cap that we have, and the ability to make deals seem like long deals but usually have outs, you can do whatever you want. I can't imagine they would have just backed up the Brinks to a diva like Beckham without giving themselves an out after two or three years. Same goes for Ford who has a history of injuries.
I legit can't believe Lynch pulled this off for a freaking 2020 2nd!

Ford is an amazing pass rusher when healthy. No matter if the pick is Bosa or Q, Ford is going to dominate the tackles in our division if you try to focus too much on Buckner or Bosa/Q. Good f***ing luck stopping all 3.

Also, while I don't really believe in Solly, god help the league if the pick is Bosa and Thomas finally has a breakthrough third season playing inside.

He's early in his prime (turns 28 on the 19th). Last year was a breakout year, I think he still has room to improve

very exciting. Rather have Ford than OBJ.

These moves at LB tell me the our personnel department isn't too high on Bosa or Allen.

I mean there are two edges to rush from soooooo....

I think SS is Harris job to lose. He played lights out when he had the chance last year.

They've been using wide 9. They're simply going to do it more.

Quinten Williams

If we get QW, then to Solly or AA and hopefully Marsh (please let this happen)
I am so excited.

We need Debo in the 2nd.

Even if ARI takes Bosa, we now can trade down with a QB hungry team.

Thanks MD!!

Couldn't Ford play SAM while Bosa plays RDE in base downs, Ford and Bosa rushing from the ends on PR downs?

I hope he improved a lot this off season. He was already better than both Fart and Colby combined. He'll get one of them kicked out.
