What's more frustrating...seeing this or Jimmy's trade value thread continue to be at the top of the board?

This! Ford was a gamble, it didn't work out because of injury, move on and build the roster with a younger talent or FA

Redoing his contract made it dam near impossible to move off of him

We can cut him any time. What's impossible?
Its like a penny stock that keeps going down and down. Now its worth maybe 5 cents, and the Niners keep doubling down by restructuring and saying it will be fine

I think the Athletic did an article that it costs us more to cut him than keep him. So we put him on IR and pay him.

Worst trade in a while, even when he played he was a part timer at best. The Chiefs 'fleeced' us.

Yup. Just read that article. But unless someone is a new fan, you should've already gone through the stages of grief with this trade. Just know one more year and it's all over. And our pass rush situation is far better than what it used to be. Once upon a time, Cassius Marsh was our premier edge guy. John Lynch was a desperate man and made the trade at the time that Cassius Marsh was our premier pass rusher. It worked for about 8 games. He also added Nick Bosa, Jordan Willis, Charles Omenihu, and Samson Ebukam. More hits than misses on that list and we are far better in that department. He will be gone in 2023 and we'll get our precious cap space back. Onto figuring out how to retain our current guys and rebuilding the secondary.

Yessss!
Guess this means he's sticking around again this year.

Why do we keep restructuring his contract? We keep extending by the pain of this whole situation.
4.96M is a good savings but we just keep pushing the $ back. Too bad this didn't come a day earlier. It may have let us resign DJ Jones.

I highly doubt we would've resigned DJ. 10 mil a year is a lot for us, especially with how much money Bosa will get. AA and Bosa will already take up a decent chunk of the DL money. Only so many expensive guys you can have there without f**king up the rest of the roster.

They wouldn't pay him $10m even if they had $50m in cap space.

I think they were out the money no matter what. So save a little cap this year, maybe a chance he plays like one game. Then cap goes up and it is easier to hide the hit.

This deal was worked out a long time ago and had no effect on yesterday. The 9ers did not need to be under the cap yesterday to say they were going to sign anyone. They need to finalize deals by tomorrow to be under the cap and actually sign people.

The front office already knows what money they have avaliable from the deals we have not seen yet and are working off that knowledge.
Unless Jimmy gets moved in 24 hrs get ready for a couple more restructures. This one stinks though. I get pushing that down the road because of the cap increase the next two yrs, but at some pt you gotta rip the Band-Aid off.
