I like most fans get frustrated with the 49ers patience with injured players however, I believe that is by strategy. A: a player like Verrett will continue to resign with us for cheap and IF he ever puts ot together healthwise he will continue to have that gratification, same can be said for Ford, who's restructured several times now. B: I think it looks good to FA's where most the NFL is a "We released Bobby Wagner today without notification, we let the news tell him" dog eat dog business where players are discarded without pause when they are no longer performing, the 49ers are by far one of the more patient teams when it comes to injuries and in a sport where the collisions and the contact is so violent, I am sure that the injured players appreciate that.
Dee may never be a major contributor again, but he may be and if he is he'll be playing on a team that he really enjoys playing for and players with that mindset always play harder. It helps create a family-type environment with the 49ers. We had it under Eddie D and Jed is now creating the same culture, but how he's able to in 2022. I prefer my team to give a s**t about these guys than just tossem when their time is done. I've done my own complaining about Dee, but my outlook has changed and Im proud of the 49ers for keeping him on to really try to get him healthy and playing football again. Same for Verrett.
well alright I guess. But to me, there's a fine line between being an a*****e to a 10 year proven vet like Bobby, and wasting time on injury prone guys like Jalen Hurd for like 3 or 4 years.
Hurd cost them very little to keep around on his rookie deal.
Wow. We're trying very very hard here to defend the indefensible. Everyone knows dee is a good hard working guy. He cant play football though and he should acknowledge that and retire or find an administrative option that leaves his roster spot available to someone else. One thing that burned me over the last 3 years is that he keeps coming up with positive prognostications, then tries out his injury in action and immediately starts the rehab dance. This is probably coming from his agent but its still bs. If we want to help out dee then the yorks can give him a private pension or personal srrvice contract that helps him out. He should NOT be taking resources away from the team when its clearly impossible for him to play again safely.
