What was the point of restructuring his contract if they knew he wasn't going to be on the team? Do they have to wait until June 1st?

I read it that all we save is 1.2 million if we Post June 1 cut him, and lose cap space if we cut him Pre June 1. It looks like on Overthecap that we still take the same cap hit for 2023 if he plays for us this season, or is a June 1 cut. The way it looks, is that he can play this season for us for an additional 1.2 million for 2022 salary cap reasons, or we save the 1.2 million after a June 1 cut. Is Dee Ford not worth 1.2 million to play for us this season? Can he not stay healthy if we basically have him ride a stationary bike for cardio, and lift weights to stay in shape, only see the field on game days, and his only role when on the field is to go in on passing downs to rush the QB?

Of course, Dee was paid, but it must be Hell to be a professional-level player all your life and then that ability just goes away.

It might be worth it if he produced when he came in. But hes a ghost when he plays which is like 4 times then goes on ir.
No thanks. Well pass.

We get 2.5 M I believe I read. Not a lot because we restructured twice and already used the extra.
We need it for the rookies, so any amount helps.

I can see why teams like to keep guaranteed money low/signing bonuses if possible. With a lower number, the 49ers could have released him long ago without much cap damage.

Lol he's living the life of luxury courtesy of the 49ers. I wouldn't be surprised If he changes his mind about retiring.

He hasn't mentioned retiring once I have heard. Just speculation.
