It's kinda fun to see how this guy skyrocketed up the draft boards around the time of the combine and then actually lived up to the hype. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I feel he was pegged as kind of a late first round pick ("he'd be a good fit in New England")... then he was in discussions for being a borderline top 15 pick... then he eventually was picked #8 overall.

This guy is fun as hell to watch.

Well, he played at Stanford... they've had a few super productive backs recently who haven't done anything in the league. Then there was the question of how fast and athletic he REALLY was. When you can prove yourself against similar athletes at the combine like he did, you come out on top.

Also, he's a white running back. There were doubts there too, although no one has the balls to admit it. Similarly to how they're always trying to get black quarterbacks to play receiver.

Probably. They paid premiums for Jet and Juice.

My points were simply that the Panthers didn't completely blow up their cap structure, and that I'd rather have our RB situation. Mostert & Breida aren't unique stories. Getting production from no name RB's is a hallmark of this system - from Peyton Hillis to Alfred Morris and Arian Foster.
Nice contract and has one of the hottest GF's too. Way to go bud!
STUD. The definition of a STUD.
I am now officially on the "Jimmy for McCaffrey straight up" trade bandwagon.

He's perfect for what Shanahan wants to do, in terms of "position-less offense." Since both players have large cap hits, I imagine there is a way to equitably disperse McCaffrey's bonus money. He's injury prone and thus overpaid, so maybe the Panthers want an out? But over on our team, with Elijah Mitchell, Shanahan doesn't have to blast him into the ground (I know that's what he did last year, but there's room for adjustment).

Imagine Deebo at running back, Juice at TE, Kittle at FB, Aiyuk out wide and McCaffrey in motion the slot? The zany formations that could come from this...
I imagine the Panthers would want some additional compensation, but then the additional compensation is taking his contract off their hands (to an extent; can't fit it all in, giggity).

Let's take another injury prone player so we can have a new thread to hit 1000 pages of b***hing.

While this is true, which is the norm? The last two years or the two prior? And, 8 games of McCaffrey is better than zero of Jimmy. What if they give us draft capital as well?

When has Jimmy given zero?? McCaffrey has a bad ankle and a bad hamstring, two injuries that I'd stay away from. But if they gave up draft capitol like a 3rd round pick, sure I'd do it.

I'd feel better if his two injury years were 2018/19 and his two healthy years were 2020/21, but it's reversed.

In 2022. The point I was making is that if Jimmy somehow stays on the team, he'll contribute nothing because Trey WILL start (that's a fact, and people around here need to start realizing it). But McCaffery, he'd be a very real asset, as long as he isn't hurt.

But in reality, Jimmy is likely to be traded this summer. Probably to the Panthers. So then it becomes, would you rather have a draft pick, or McCaffrey?
