"there's a chance that the Niners could enter a crucial October 13 showdown with the Rams at 4-0, as the home slate opens in the next two weeks with matchups against the Steelers and Browns following a bye week.
It'll be that Los Angeles game that truly shows where the 49ers stand. It's hard not to appreciate what this team has done so far, but there's work to be done and names to be made if they're going to be among football's elite."

So expects we'll be 4-0 but still pretenders unless we win in LA.

Ya make sense. So far we beat two non playoff teams. Browns will be a test. They have a good pass rush, thats gonna show how bad or good our OL is.

Put Seattle at contender 2-0. Lost all credibility.

21-20 over the Bengals, the Niners just stomped 41-17 at home. 28-26 over the Steelers without Roethlisberger for most of game.

Probably afraid they will put him in as QB behind that line once they run out of QB's.

We don't know who we've beaten yet. Like we don't know who we are yet.

Lost all credibility for ranking the team that has been consistently better than us recently ahead of us? I don't see the problem. It makes sense. We've been bad for too long for anyone to trust our record.

I was gonna make a thread about this, but figured...….why?

F**** that punk Elias.
Adam Gase seems to already lost the Jets lol

Dude one of the most overrated HC when he was hired away as OC of the Bears, along with Hue Jackson of the Bengals.

One of the most annoying things you'll ever have to deal with as a fan is credibility.

You can feel it in your gut so bad, you know it to be true, but others won't give you the props until you GO OUT AND TAKE IT! (ugh)

In 2011, I'd say it was the Steelers win on MNF that really put the league on notice (being 9-2 or whatever record we were didn't seem to matter). Then it took beating the Saints in the playoffs to be considered a real team it seemed. But even then, it wasn't until the Niners beat the Packers to start the season in 2012 and maybe a few weeks in for people to recognize the 49ers as a DOMINANT team, top 5 NFL team, proven and in it for the long haul.

So based on history, I think it may take a few games for people to respect the 49ers as a threat, and maybe until the end of the season to assess them as something more. Ultimately the 49ers will have to make the playoffs and do some damage to get viewed as a top team in the way the Rams and even the f**king Seahawks take for granted now.

But I do think that by week 5 or 6 if all goes well, the 49ers will not be seen as the doormat they've been viewed as the last few years. My buddy who knows football was being dismissive yesterday "you guys beat the two worst teams in the league", without a proper view of anything (guaranteed not even the highlights of that game was watched). December 2017 was a long time ago, and if this was last year...…...MAYBE it'd be a different tune, but for now the Bucs & Bengals were/are garbage (which I don't feel is correct).

And BTW, EVEN IF THEY WERE GARBAGE TEAMS...…...the 49ers had convincing wins against both, esp. the Bengals.

Tell me a year, any year, where a s**** team beat another team on the road 41-17? Look up all the 41-17 road wins in NFL history and get back to me that such a thing was a mere fluke.

The Raiders gave up against the Niners at home last year by all accounts and we still didn't smash them as hard as we did this past weekend.

So it's very possible to show a good team even against a weak opponent. The Ravens crushing the Dolphins 59-10 indicates that the Ravens are a pretty decent to maybe very good team......and hell, Lamar Jackson (whom I don't want to believe is good) might actually be good......we don't need 84-0 to tell us those things.

Reputation is everything, for better or worse.

To me this team is better than the 2014 49ers and yet that team had potential SB aspirations prior to the season...…."even if Harbaugh wins the Super Bowl".....

Hang tight. Instead of wishing for praise and crap, let's just wish for Staley's quick return and Jimmy's blindside protection and overall health. If we can preserve that, I'm going to be very excited at taking on the Rams and other top teams this season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Justin says it true. The 49ers will need to win more of a marquee game against one of the supposedly elite teams, preferably on a Sunday night, Monday or Thursday. I like that they are under the radar by all the dips**t talking heads and writers. But you can bet the people that really matter have taken notice ... HC's and coordinators around the league.

It is funny that Seattle keeps coming up when this dissing topic arises. This years 49er team has reminded me a little of the Seattle rise to power. Not exact for sure in how it was built and the exact strengths, but a team that was off the radar that exploded and started laying waste to the league for a number of years. I still need to see some more games this season, and some of the big matchups coming up, to see if this analogy takes hold with me. But it sure seems like a big nasty freight train is starting to pick up steam and could start the ground rumbling at a gridiron near you. Might still be a year away.
