I was waiting for someone to post about Bart Starr's passing, nobody did, so I felt obligated. Number 15 won 3 NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowls. Alabama graduate and a late round selection (back in the day there were 17 rounds). There was a saying in the early 60's "On any Given Sunday any team can beat any other team............except the Packers. Starr rarely made a mistake and was an extension of Coach Lombardi. I remember the Thanksgiving Day Massacre when an invincible Packer team went into Detroit with a 10 and 0 record and Starr was sacked 11 times by the Lions D and lost 26-14. There weren't many games like that for the Pack that year as they went on to win the NFL Championship in 62. RIP

Same here, I was waiting for someone to post the news.
RIP. Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr ushered in a new era where African Americans became a big part of the NFL. Prior to that, African Americans were almost non-existent in the sport of American Football.

willie wood, ben adderly, elijiah pitts, i am sure i missed a few. i was to young and did not see those great packer teams. if i recall, he was a coach on the good 1972 packers team led by john brockington and mcarther lane. then a head coach for a couple average years with the packers

Very true. The Packers and the Browns were both pioneers. Just for reference, in 1954 the Niners had 2 black players and by 1957 the number had increased to a whopping 4 players. Can you imagine football with only 3 or 4 African-Americans!

i am thinking the colts as well should be in that mix of being pioneers ? lennie moore,. i did not see them but know some nfl history. i think they actually drafted the first black fb player ever.

Darris McCord, Alex Karras, Roger Brown, Sam Williams, Roger Brown was 6'5" 300 lbs and would be an all-pro today and any other day. Middle Line Backer was Hall Of Famer Joe Schmidt, the Defensive Backfield had 3 all-pros, Dick Lebeau, Yale Larry and last but certainly not least Night Train Lane, who still holds the record for interceptions in a 12, 14 or 16 game schedule, 14.
