It's not very hard to get into the playoffs when the 3 other teams in that division have been a disaster

Seriously, 49ers used to get s**t in the 80s & 90s for playing in a "weak" Western division but even those teams would eventually get their s**t together and make playoff runs, Patriots have owned the AFC East for 18 years, and the Bills,Jets, & Dolphins have done nothing but bend over to them, those 2 seasons from the Jets with Rex Ryan is the only exception

It's absolutely ridiculous. I mean I've said it as a joke before that Brady is in league with the Devil or something, but shoot, sometimes it's hard not to think what the actual F is going on here? It's absurd how they get a free pass to division crowns every year. I honestly want division realignment just for the sake of giving them more competition. That division outside of the Patriots must have the worst record in the NFL over the past decade.

A lot of that is due to how successful the Pats are. These coaches are getting fired after 2 years in that division if they dont win. Its impossible to build any kind of continuity that way.

And like someone already mentioned, our division was also pretty weak in the 80s and there was no salary cap. Pats have had a 20 year run within the salary cap era, thats impressive no matter what kind of excuses people want to make.

We would've dominated most of the 90s as well if Walsh didnt retire and the nfc west would've continued being a joke.

Those weak opponents in the division do make a difference. I saw somewhere that the other 3 teams have had something like 40 different QB's in the time that Brady has been starting. The salary cap hasn't been an issue for them because Brady is willing to take less money because his wife makes twice what he does and Belichick doesn't pay anyone else. He let's them leave. The Niners had some weak opponents in their division but NO, the Falcons and the Rams all had good teams at some point during their run. Then they had to make it through the NFC playoffs when the NFC was much stronger than the AFC. Just look at the blowouts in the SB. It didn't make a difference whether it was the Niners, Giants, Bears or Cowboys. Whoever won the NFC was always a huge favorite to win the SB. NE has had a much easier path. Actually their just aren't any really strong teams now because of the salary cap. It may be more competitive but it's nearly impossible to buils a strong roster with depth and maintain it for more than a year or two.

It's quite easy to get into the playoffs years after year when you know you already have 6 games guaranteed in the bag before you've even played a game. No other division is that easy to win, and for that length of time too. It seems all they can do is wait for Brady and Belichick to retire. The 49ers never had it this easy in the 80's. Plus, the rules of the game were vastly different then; the QB's and WR's didn't have diapers on them like they do now. That skew's things as well. This is why I REFUSE to call Brady the GOAT QB, I don't care how many SB's he wins.

So, I propose realignment more often to maintain parity

You're surprised by that? It's basically the system used by every American sports league. Alternating teams in divisions yearly sounds like a worse idea than the realignment strategy used above. lol
