He's been to the last 7 pro bowlsOriginally posted by RonMexico:Originally posted by Bluesbro:Originally posted by dj43:Originally posted by socal9er42:Time for the rumor mill to kick in if it looks like Staley is seriously hurt.
Williams is 31 years old and has had a history of injuries.
We need that 1st next year for Joe's replacement.
This! He has only played a full season twice in his 9 year career. He is old and big ... is he mobile enough for the 49er run scheme? He may be, I honestly don't know. But there is no way I would trade a 1st rounder for him.
He is younger than Staley and has 2 functional legs though

Makes it easier when you're the third or fourth guy in because everyone else is in the playoffs. He's a really good player but the injury history makes him undependable as a left tackle.
The last time he played a full season, Eric Reid was a freshfaced rookie out of LSU.

What happens when Staley is back? As exciting as it's been 2 weeks in, we're not contenders for the Super Bowl this year.

play him at LG I guess? Who knows, it would be a total New England type of trade for real.

Only way we get him is for a 1st since we don't have a second.
Don't think we have anyone they want to sweeten the deal with a 3rd.

If we try to get Williams we can't give them a #1 and we don't have a 2 so I can't see how they could work this out. Maybe a #2 in 2021 and a #5 next year or something like that. The problem with getting him now is it will take him a couple games at least to learn the system and get used to playing with this group. I don't like that he has only played a complete season twice in 9 years. With our luck, he'll probably get injured in his first game. Staley could be back in 6-8 weeks so maybe we just have to make the best of it and go with Skule.
