Austin Walter, RB

Don't mean to rain on this guy's parade but I honestly don't remember a back that hasn't looked serviceable in this scheme.

I might can even gain some yards in this offense.
The new Kory Sheets
Glen Coffee would a monster in this scheme.

Kory Sheets feels so disrespected right now.
It's not a question of whether Walter is a real NFL player at this point, imo. It's a matter of injuries, both last year and this year, to our RB corps. Coleman and Brieda are fine. Mostert is in concussion protocol, but even when healthy I don't want him carrying the ball very often at all. 2 fumbles lost in the last 40 carries over two years (46 if you count receptions, for those keeping score) is not good by any metric.

To me, Walter looks the part for a temporary stop-gap until (and if) McKinnon gets back. If Mostert gets back soon and healthy, then Walter is likely gone, but if not I have no problem with keeping him. In this scheme, he could be a very serviceable part-time back.
I mean the dude avg 2.9 YPC, what are we talking about here?

70 combined yards when they were literally teaching the guy in the endzone where to line up on plays. Guy had like 5 minutes to learn the offense. I liked the burst he showed on those runs, and if he could learn how to follow the OZ and cut back at the right time, he could do alright. Our #3 current RB is currently injured and is a fumble machine last I checked. Walter had 0 fumbles against Dallas.

what do you mean he had 5 mins to learn the offense? I thought he was signed as a UDFA back in May (rookie from Rice) and has been at camp all off season?

They just signed Brandon Wilds before the game.

Well I'm all messed up getting those two confused. I don't care either way. I just thought Walter looked serviceable for a rôle given the injury circumstances. I'm not sold on our RB depth at all, and if there's somebody else lurking around who could fill that rôle, that's fine too.

all good...hey he's gonna get plenty of work this preseason and imo could have a good shot at making the PS. I'm fine with our RB depth and if Jet goes on IR they can either keep an extra player at another position (WR/DL) or search the waiver wire on final cuts (we have the 2nd priority). I've watched the game twice and he didn't look at great to me.

Well, considering how little I know about him, it would be even more stupid of me to continue to argue the point.

All I know is he played at Rice lol...haven't heard anything about him during TC

It looks like we'll have just three healthy RBs again as Coleman, Breida and Mostert will have to carry the load this season. McKinnon is a big question mark.

He did look good to me also. But to even make the PS he has to look good again next week and the week after. Having said that, I think he has a chance and I'm pulling for the guy since I'm having major doubts about McKinnons health.

It was how he attacked the hole and had good hands out of the backfield. What do we say about box score scouting NY. He had a great burst just not much blocking. He does go down if a player gets their arm on him though

Maybe he can average 3.9+ behind the 1st team line.
