Me too! I was saying with this tandem of corners we can win the Super Bowl and it wouldn't be that hard for us to stop any great quarterback with these two corners. But of course this happens to us. We finally have the best pair of corners we've had since the 90s and then we lose one. Typical!
We all know that Jason Verrett has never played a full year and even when people mention 2020 they fail to realize he missed the first three games of the season. This sucks!
Yup. However, I'm pretty convinced he was going to be here long term. It will just be cheaper for one year, but you definitely lock him up between now and free agency and long term next season. It really was a thing of beauty to watch this defense play. Maybe next year Moseley can have a better offense to compliment his great efforts.
Very true. He will be cheaper and it looks like our owner and front office wants to keep him. Matt M reported that we were trying to extend him before the season and then……probably asking for too much imo. If he played the full season he would cost 10-12 million easy. Now maybe 8-10.
With the way the D was playing, I'd have taken that. A situation where Mosely is your number 2 corner and you have a star on the rise in Hufanga? The team could conceivably just use most of their draft picks on offense to help get that side of the ball up to the level of the defense. They had to know the value of a good corner on the open market and there is no need to let the guy hit free agency to find out. The more he played in front of this D-line, with Mooney on the other side, with the linebackers, he was only going to look better and better. With the injury, perhaps they still do a longterm deal, but put some things in place to protect the team in the event he doesn't fully bounce back. But 10-12 is a year is what you'd have to expect. We cannot count on Verrett and Ambry Thomas hasn't shown enough for us to be that bold about potentially letting him walk. This is also the perfect kind of D for Trey to develop with. By the the time Trey is owed big money, hopefully he wouldn't need to be carried by an elite defense.
