Didnt stop every QB who played before 2000. Maybe players are just more evolved now, but it used to take being knocked unconscious on the field after years of concussions, or having a bone sticking out of your leg to make a QB retire.

Steve Young was practically brain damaged from dozens of head injuries, and even after the Aeneas Williams hit he actually thought about signing with Shanahan in Denver.

He said it was always his dream job but for 4 years all he did was get hurt and rehab. No off season vacations or time to unwind. Just hard work to try and stay in the league. He wasn't able to make any long range plans because he was so unsure of his future.

QB's are already getting around $35 million a year tops. That is going to be raised with new cap increases. So $40 - $50 million a year coming soon on future contracts.

29 - 39 conservatively he has 10 more years left easy. New contracts and new cap comes in higher. 10 years * $40 million = $400 million.

Can he play to 42 like Brady? Why stop at 39? Add $120 million more.

$400 million to 39 + 120 million more to 42 + endorsements conservatively on the low side $100 - $200 million more.

Potential that he is walking away from. $400 million + $120 million + $200 million = $720 million......

You just play hurt for that. You don't walk away from 3/4 a billion. You just don't.....

I wouldn't walk away from 3/4 of a billion. He seems to be walking fine. But he can do what he wants.

I wouldn't walk away from 3/4 of a billion. He seems to be walking fine. But he can do what he wants.

Not everything in the world can be bought.

Some people can be content with 50 million or whatever he's already made. Especially if they invest it and don't blow it all on depreciating assets. Everytime one of those rookies shows up to camp in a damn Porche, Bentley, whatever and a s**t load of all this designer stuff I just shake my head. Should have just bought a modest vehicle and wore the team gear that's free. They would have already been several thousand dollars richer that day had they invested.

I just remembered we had 3 players retire before the age of 30 in one off season. 4 if you wanna count Aldon drinking himself out of the league.

Luck is a Stanford grad, bright dude i can bet hes smart with his money and will do perfectly fine in life after. But will not be shocked if he comes back at age 31-32 when his body and mind are healthy, dude loves the game too much and he wont be behind the pathetic oline grigson put in front of him

I think this is the youngest retirement ever by a star QB in the modern era (that wasn't due to a single catastrophic injury anyway). Steve Young's career didn't even really get started till he was 30.
