Draft will have nice QB talent available.
They get out of that awful Luck contract.
He keeps getting hurt anyway.
Chance for Brisset to prove he can maybe be the guy.
How was Luck contract awful? Dude was easily one of the best QBs in the game before injuries piled up. I can guarantee the colts didn't want him to retire and brisset will never be close to what Luck was pre injuries
A Qb that can't stay healthy taking almost 25 million of the team's cap space is awful.
It wasn't Luck's fault that bad management failed to provide him with the tools to survive in a violent game.
Luck was well on his way to a HOF career until injuries stopped him.
I understand your point but at the same juncture, that's just an excuse. Half the teams in the NFL don't have good O-Lines.

You get a great QB and make no progress in building an offensive line to protect him, and now he's gone.
Heads should roll.
I would love to trade CJ or BDN to the Colts because it makes great football sense, but I'd hate to see the beating they would take
You need to update your talking points. The Colts had the best OL in football last year. The front office that ruined Luck is gone. They have a terrific GM now in Ballard.
Last year was a little late for Luck, perhaps CJ could do well behind it.

when grigson was GM colts arguably had the worst oline in the league, put ANY qb behind that oline and lets see the injuries that pile up to that qb. Grigson was the same GM who instead of fixing the oline traded a 1st rounder for freaking trent richardson

QB's are already getting around $35 million a year tops. That is going to be raised with new cap increases. So $40 - $50 million a year coming soon on future contracts.
29 - 39 conservatively he has 10 more years left easy. New contracts and new cap comes in higher. 10 years * $40 million = $400 million.
Can he play to 42 like Brady? Why stop at 39? Add $120 million more.
$400 million to 39 + 120 million more to 42 + endorsements conservatively on the low side $100 - $200 million more.
Potential that he is walking away from. $400 million + $120 million + $200 million = $720 million......
You just play hurt for that. You don't walk away from 3/4 a billion. You just don't.....
Well, you do if you are afraid that you won't be able to walk at all. Or recognise your own children. Or whatever.
Andrew Luck is an intelligent man. He will have thought this through in depth.
I wouldn't walk away from 3/4 of a billion. He seems to be walking fine. But he can do what he wants.
If I had already earned $100 million I would. I would want to enjoy it.
Why risk your brain and body?

Your quality of life, and that of your family, is unchanged if you have $100M in the bank vs. $400M.
You and your children can do whatever they want, go wherever you want, study wherever you want and live wherever you want.

What an effin douche. Leave your team high and dry last freaking minute. How completely selfish can you be? If this is something he was willing to do at all, it's been something that's been on his mind for a long time. He should have bowed out in February, not 2 weeks before the season starts.

Every person in that stadium can quit their job or retire when they want. What's there to criticize or show displeasure about? They're booing him because they want him to man-up and play thru the injuries or him to make the decision before FA/draft. Why do they expect that from him...? It's because many fans think that without them - these guys will have no jobs, so these players should be eternally grateful to them.
They're not criticizing his performance or something horrible he did off the field. They're booing because he decided to retire on his terms and not when they think he should have retired.
Not everyone. You quit a teaching job midway thru and they can have your teacher's license revoked. There are jobs that you make a commitment to and a team is one of those jobs. At the office they can easily fill the job whether it's March or September. There is absolutely a time to retire in sports and it's not 2 weeks before the year.
Teams cut players under contract all the time just before the start of the season.
What is good for the goose...

"I am a HUGE #AndrewLuck fan… always have been. But this I cannot defend or justify. NO scenario where retirement is defensible," Beuerlein wrote to begin a series of tweets. "To do this to his teammates, organization, fans, and the NFL 2 weeks before the season is just not right. I love the guy but this will haunt him.
"Point is this is a massive decision he SAID he has pondered for 10 DAYS! #Colts invested in him for 5-10 more YRS! Go on IR, get away for a few weeks and think about it. Get healthy for 2nd half of season and make a run! #Colts are good! If #Jacoby goes 4-4 they have a chance!
"The MILLIONS he walked away from affects only HIM. The DECISION to walk away just prior to the season affects his TEAM, ORGANIZATION, FANBASE, and the ENTIRE NFL… ALL had invested in him for this year at least. Walk away AFTER the season.
"His team needs him to make this run. I know rehab is tough. I had 19 surgeries as a player… 8 over 2 years. It sucks! But he owes it to his team. It is just a lower leg injury and it will heal! Just give it a chance. If it doesn't walk away after this year."

I feel like this. You don't quit 2 weeks before the season. You either quit no later than just before the draft or you wait till after the season.

Brady, who's entering his 20th NFL season with the New England Patriots at age 42, said Monday morning he supports the (former) Indianapolis Colts QB's decision.
"It's his life. Everyone has the right to choose what he wants to do," Brady told WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show" in his weekly interview. "He had a great career and he was a great player.
"Everybody wishes they could be healthy all the time. It is a contact sport and he's certainly had his fair share of injuries, so guys retire at different times. Some at the end of the season, and I have seen a lot of guys retire before the season gets going. This is just one of those examples."
"I think it's everything," Brady said when asked to explain his longevity. "There's definitely a physical element. There's definitely an emotional element. I think there is a mental element. Everything in my view really has to come together for you to be the best version of yourself as a player, and it takes a lot of support."
Many Colts fans weren't supportive of Luck on Saturday night, showering him with boos as he left the field following his final preseason game. But Brady -- whose former backup, Jacoby Brissett, will replace Luck in Indy -- says Luck shouldn't place too much stock into the fans' raw display of emotion.
"I think emotions are just that. They come and go," Brady said. "In the moment, I try and not make any decisions on emotion. We are emotional beings. They just ebb and flow. That's just part of life in my view."
Because who cares what a career backup qb thinks....

...he doesn't want to play anymore. What does waiting til after the season do? Literally the whole reason he is quitting is to avoid injury and heal. The ENTIRE reason this happened in August is because he worked his ass off to get his body ready for the season -- and it just did not respond.

The argument here isn't whether or not he has the right to quit. No one has disputed that and the Colts bent over backwards for him letting him keep money he's not even entitled to. I'm talking whether the fans were wrong to boo him. If Luck couldn't handle the boos for quitting don't show up to the game.

Brady is just leaving the door open for himself to retire whenever he feels like it. It's obviously not the right way to retire to leave your team high and dry right before the start of the season.
BTW, did Luck honestly think he'd never ger hurt again? One relatively minor leg injury and hes just done? If he knew he was on his last strike to keep his career going, make sure your team knows so they can start trying to replace you well beforehand.
This era of "I have to do whats best for myself over everything else" is getting ridiculous. Everyone thinks its their right to be satisfied and comfortable at all times. Tough out the season you promised the Colts organization to be there for, and retire when its over.
