What is good for the goose...

Not the same thing. If the Colts just randomly cut Luck last minute and somehow rendered him unable to sign with a team for the season, everyone would say that was messed up.

It's also not just affecting him, he basically just told him teammates "My leg hurts. Im tired of being injured. Enjoy a wasted season."
Hasn't practiced since March , doesn't sound like a minor leg injury .

He wasn't going to start this year...he's been dealing with this last injury since the spring.

Brady, who's entering his 20th NFL season with the New England Patriots at age 42, said Monday morning he supports the (former) Indianapolis Colts QB's decision.

"It's his life. Everyone has the right to choose what he wants to do," Brady told WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show" in his weekly interview. "He had a great career and he was a great player.
"Everybody wishes they could be healthy all the time. It is a contact sport and he's certainly had his fair share of injuries, so guys retire at different times. Some at the end of the season, and I have seen a lot of guys retire before the season gets going. This is just one of those examples."

"I think it's everything," Brady said when asked to explain his longevity. "There's definitely a physical element. There's definitely an emotional element. I think there is a mental element. Everything in my view really has to come together for you to be the best version of yourself as a player, and it takes a lot of support."

Many Colts fans weren't supportive of Luck on Saturday night, showering him with boos as he left the field following his final preseason game. But Brady -- whose former backup, Jacoby Brissett, will replace Luck in Indy -- says Luck shouldn't place too much stock into the fans' raw display of emotion.

"I think emotions are just that. They come and go," Brady said. "In the moment, I try and not make any decisions on emotion. We are emotional beings. They just ebb and flow. That's just part of life in my view."

Because who cares what a career backup qb thinks....

Brady is just leaving the door open for himself to retire whenever he feels like it. It's obviously not the right way to retire to leave your team high and dry right before the start of the season.

BTW, did Luck honestly think he'd never ger hurt again? One relatively minor leg injury and hes just done? If he knew he was on his last strike to keep his career going, make sure your team knows so they can start trying to replace you well beforehand.

This era of "I have to do whats best for myself over everything else" is getting ridiculous. Everyone thinks its their right to be satisfied and comfortable at all times. Tough out the season you promised the Colts organization to be there for, and retire when its over.
Minor leg injury that's been effecting him since the spring...that was bad enough to possibly put him on IR to start the year. You have no idea what he's gone through the last 5 years. I get why he walked away...being in constant pain for years will ruin anything that you love.

Fans are so entitled. People seriously think a player should provide the team "a courtesy" or "respect" when it comes to retirement. Every player in this league...every one...is a mercenary. As it should be.

He wasn't hurt in Feb.

So he juuuuust started thinking "Man these injuries are starting to pile up. Maybe I should start thinking retirement" with this recent calf injury that doesn't even have him limping as he walks around the field and hadn't thought about it prior to this minor meaningless (in the grand scheme of things) injury?

"I am a HUGE #AndrewLuck fan… always have been. But this I cannot defend or justify. NO scenario where retirement is defensible," Beuerlein wrote to begin a series of tweets. "To do this to his teammates, organization, fans, and the NFL 2 weeks before the season is just not right. I love the guy but this will haunt him.

"Point is this is a massive decision he SAID he has pondered for 10 DAYS! #Colts invested in him for 5-10 more YRS! Go on IR, get away for a few weeks and think about it. Get healthy for 2nd half of season and make a run! #Colts are good! If #Jacoby goes 4-4 they have a chance!

"The MILLIONS he walked away from affects only HIM. The DECISION to walk away just prior to the season affects his TEAM, ORGANIZATION, FANBASE, and the ENTIRE NFL… ALL had invested in him for this year at least. Walk away AFTER the season.

"His team needs him to make this run. I know rehab is tough. I had 19 surgeries as a player… 8 over 2 years. It sucks! But he owes it to his team. It is just a lower leg injury and it will heal! Just give it a chance. If it doesn't walk away after this year."

I feel like this. You don't quit 2 weeks before the season. You either quit no later than just before the draft or you wait till after the season.

...he doesn't want to play anymore. What does waiting til after the season do? Literally the whole reason he is quitting is to avoid injury and heal. The ENTIRE reason this happened in August is because he worked his ass off to get his body ready for the season -- and it just did not respond.

So then you go through the season and rehab and get right while being there for your team, supporting Brissett and announce retirement after the season. His latest injury doesn't even have him limping that I could see.....

Fans shell out thousands of dollars in advance while players make millions to play. This isn't an entitlement issue. If you paid for a Beatles concert they don't get to switch it to a cover band 2 weeks before the event. Granted I get it's different, that's apples and oranges but It's not unreasonable to expect players to play for a year that they signed up for.

Reports are out that he thought about retirement during his shoulder rehab a couple of years ago. As for his injury I'm sure you got the inside report as to how bad it is because the rest of the world hasn't. The guy couldn't even stand on the pedestal with ought moving back and forth while he announced his retirement.

And I hope they post their tears on YouTube to see the struggle is real

The Colts are cutting guys last minute this year. The Colts aren't preventing them from signing elsewhere but Luck isn't preventing the Colts from signing a qb either.

And players literally risk their personal health.

Why? He doesn't like football. Brissett needs to be his own man.

Why can't he just do this via phone, text and the occasional practice drop in? Why does he have to be at the team facility week-in, week-out? He doesn't want to be there.

That's my point. If you are contemplating retirement as far back as years ago, you don't f**king wait till two weeks before the season to make that decision, how effing selfish can you be? He has a responsibility to his teammates and the fans.

I watched him walk around the field with little to no limp during the game.....
