People like LeBatard are just using this story to spout a holier-than-thou diatribe about how progressive they are in the modern age. Hes such a hero.
Luck was committed to the Colts for the 2019 season, and he bailed right before the season started. Thats the problem everyone has with it. If he retired after week 17 it wouldn't have been a controversial topic. Certain media members love to spin this stuff into sports culture virtue signaling, as if they are shaming the angry mob of NFL fans demanding Luck be forced to perform for their entertainment.
The Colts 2019 season is now ruined thanks to this decision. He screwed his entire team. But hes so brave for leaving the game young and rich....
???
The Colts are "committed" on paper to literally dozens of players who the team is going to leave behind.
This isn't marriage. There is literally nothing legally binding these two together. Luck worked within the confines of his contract and retired.
Every player in this league is a mercenary. ZERO players have a commitment to their team or their fanbase. Only to themselves. And every one of them is only committed as much as their love for the game allows.
Yup. And before ppl use the excuse of those players arent making a lot of money or arent that important to the team, look at the Giants. In Feb their GM is sitting at a press conference literally saying they have no intentions of trading OBJ, one month later...
Its a business. The fanatics need to understand this. Unless you are new at watching sports, by now you should undertstand that players get cut, traded, ask to be traded, hold out, etc.
And this all falls on the Colts. You cant allow your franchise qb to get sacked 60 more times than any other starter. You cant misdiagnose 2 separate injuries and force him into months and months of unnecessary rehab, twice. They f**ked up.
Although it is funny that RG3 is gonna have a longer career lol.
