Can't blame the fans for booing. For a franchise qb I think you got to retire in Feb/ March or just let it be known to the org that if things go south you may hang it up. Maybe he did the latter but the fans are blind sided and are just seeing a season in the toilet.

One year out of how many in his career?
I understand that, but the quote was it's not like he HAS (present tense) a good line protecting him. He has the best OL in football.
But yes, I realize that it came like 8 years late

He hadn't hurt his ankle back then. He gave them a two week notice that he was strongly considering it. That's more than most players do. The fans can go to hell. They and certain posters here Are examples of fans who ruin sports with their toxicity.

A 2 week warning. So they can sign Mark Sanchez and get him ready. He's not working at McDonalds and the Colts are screwed now. Just saying that as thru the eyes of a Colt fan. Luck signed up for the year then he bailed. I can see why they're frustrated.

Not really surprised. I feel like we will see this more often in the coming years. Players will play 6-8 years and retire. Not worth the endless health risks and diminished quality of life.

How the OL depth in Indianapolis? A capable swing tackle for Nick Mullens, maybe?

When did his ankle injury happen? A couple weeks ago right? No one has heard a clear report of the severity of it. Its all been mixed reports from the owner to the gm, etc. Maybe there's a reason for that, and as for the 2 week warning, he has told the media the last couple years that retirement has crossed his mind, and I'm sure more was said in Colts HQ. They could have traded for Rosen or Tannehill and didn't. That's on them no him.

I agree, players are finally realizing this sport isn't worth the toll it takes on their bodies so they're making sure they get a nice paycheck for a few years and then bouncing before their brains and bodies are toast.

Yeah but then look at all the years of beatings before that which clearly took their toll. The Colts drafted the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning and managed to ruin him completely.
This, he was running for his life for years getting pummeled.

If Jimmy said he was retiring today, you probably wouldn't say this lolOriginally posted by tjd808185:A 2 week warning. So they can sign Mark Sanchez and get him ready. NBA is where the money at and your body gets no where near the toll the nfl does

Which doesn't help his case because no one knows the severity of it. It's not like he got placed on ir, is going into surgery, season over, yeah I'm retiring. Fans wouldn't boo there. But the view is he's just done dealing with injuries and no one is giving you a victory lap for retiring 2 weeks before the season over that. I'm not criticizing him though, I just don't fault fans who do especially at the qb position where the season is reliant on them and because of their cap space there's no depth. If Jimmy got a sore elbow and retired next week I'd say the same.

He has more game left in him than this. But if he is that banged up he has to do what he has to do. IMO the talent there was real. But he gets a bad rap because he was always hurt. He was always battling major injuries.
