Yes, but his best position is T. Incredibly athletic.

He has played there during PS but his footwork and agility fit best at OT.
It will be interesting to see how McGlinchey and the offense work once Mc returns to the starting lineup.

No its not clear at all. Brunskill did fine as a backup tackle that received a lot of help. Go look at how much 12 personnel the 49ers have run with Staley and McGrinchey out compared to how much they were running before. Look how often Toilolo(the third tackle) was next to him. Shanahan changed up his playcalling to protect his backup tackles like a smart playcaller should. They certainly proved that they are solid depth but nobody in that building is questioning whether or not McGrinchey should be the starter.
As far as the rating thing, that was based on a small sample size where McGrinchey had to go up against Shaq Barrett, TJ Watt, Myles Garrett...etc. We saw what he is capable of as a starter last year and especially what a monster he is in the run game. I think you'll see the 49ers go back to more of their bread and butter on offense with more 21 personnel as well as a full playbook when it comes to passing plays.
Without going back and looking at games, as time went along, it seemed Skule got more help than Brunskill. Of course, that has to do with who the ER is, however, Brunskill did very well against whoever he had to face.

I don't see Jim Burt. He looks a lot like Staley to me without Staley's messed up nose.
I despised Jim Burt so much for basically destroying Montana in that one playoff loss to the Giants. And then he joined our team.
I agree, I think I was even more conflicted with Burt joining the Niners than Sherman. Imagine how many more years Joe would have played under the modern 'protect the QB at all costs' league. I doubt Burt or Leonard would have ever happened. What those guys did to Montana, plus the lucky playoff crap makes them my most despised team in the NFL to this day.

Yes, very little help for Brunskill. I think people just assumed that would happen with frequency, so they continue to run with the narrative. He, like McGlinchey, received "help" at times... as any RT will on occasion. But Brunskill's 1v1 pass rush protection is absolutely incredible. He was an upgrade to McGlinchey in that area.

Someone who knows football. Exactly.
Brunskill balled out but McGlinch is a stud & is the more talented player. Brunskill could potentially be the RT of the future. Really great to see him fill in so nicely.
Double that. There's a reason Staley and McGlinchey were very high first round picks. We're going to most likely need another one really soon too.

Agree
To me, it is incredible that JL/KS found 2 guys at the bottom & UDFA that came in and performed so successfully.
Will lightning strike twice in 2020??

You can never have too many good OTs, however, Shon Coleman is coming back next season. So, the question then is; can one of the two kids really replace Staley? The draft implications of that are huge. To be able to go full-on BPA with the #1 pick would be .

They clearly adapted the offense to account for the changes at tackle, from running far more 2 TE looks to a much faster firing passing offense. I'm sure Shanahan will have more confidence in leaving Staley and McGrinchey out on an island if he wants to dial up some longer developing passing plays downfield.
For now Skule and Brunskill have shown that they can be solid depth. If that is all they ever turn out to be then I'd be content, maybe they can develop into something more down the road but for now I'm psyched to get the starters back along with Juice.

Coleman is a UFA after this season.

Brunskill is just a superior RT right now. There is no objective way to state that THIS YEAR McGlinchey is better than Brunskill.

Not sure it would be better to give him Staley spot. Him and skule actually both outplayed even though Brunskill is better.

I know people are pissed but Staley and McGlinchey need more than a game to knock off the rust.
