So you post a tweet from David Lombardi that says Mike McGlinchey had one of his best games as a 49er against Baltimore, gave up zero pressures and was given a run blocking grade of 88.4 by PFF, which is obviously based on their watching tape of the game, and then conclude that Brunskill is better than McGlinchey because "the tape don't lie". Okay, got it

Interesting question.

DB has now played 387 snaps, the equivalent of about half a season, and his PFF rating of 77 puts him in the #11 slot of all OTs. It is hard to put that kind of performance on the bench.

Lets be fair about Skule. Rookie 6th round draft pick dropped into a tough role. I don't think he has lost his job, I think he has justified the drafting and his future with the team but clearly, as you would expect, needs coaching, development and weight room training. Much as any other rookie. With Shon Coleman, and another year from Staley, this is a strong position.

Good call!

He was a solid pick that fits the mold for what Kyle wants. With a full off-season, he will provide good options for the future.
He is just playing outstanding. I'm very impressed. Our season would have tanked a long time ago without him. He has provided stability and continuity that the offensive line has needed with all the injuries.

Is this guy seriously a candidate as a long term solution at OT? How great would that be to find a competent starter at such an important position from the scrap heap? He's been solid from what I remember the past few weeks, although I don't spotlight him.

Let him play. Its not his fault that Staley got hurt.

I can see the guy as a future starter. At the very least as swing tackle or OL depth if Coleman isn't the man. But I think he can be the starter.

if we put Staley in, and he starts getting s**t on, go with the hot hand in Brunskill. do what's best for the team. don't care what it takes. Staley may be rested and healthy but that doesn't mean he's what's best for the team right now after barely playing so much this season

He has played at least well enough to make draft day very interesting. It would take a very good OT available at our #1 spot to cause Lynch to go there.

He's only going to be 26 next year, despite looking 46. Unfortunately for Staley, if he doesn't come back strong, he might get replaced, which would mean retirement.

I don't know how the Niners take a OT in round 1 given Brunskill's play.

1) Drafting an OT early almost certainly means Brunskill is gone when his restricted FA status is up. Several teams will pay him to be a starter. The need for quality OL play is almost as dire as that of the QB.

2) Why plug in a rookie with an extremely high bust rate when you already KNOW you have a guy that can play OT at a ridiculously high level? It would be like drafting a TE in the 1st when you already have incredible options.

3) The disparity in talent between our WR group and OL group is massive. I don't even think they're comparable, as it is so clear our WRs are in desperate need of top line help.

The early injuries to Staley and McG allowed the team to see what Brunskill and Skule are made of. If the team feels confident those two can hold it down, then it allows so much more freedom with the 2020 first rounder. I feel the team has enough young WRs to roll for 2020 provided ESamders is re-signed to provide vet leadership.

I think safety is the position to address with Ward's future with the team I doubt.

Anyway, point is Brunskill's surprisingly pleasant performance really opens the door for flexibility with that 2020 first rounder.
