I said we're not mortgaging the future on him. The second round pick was for Dee Ford. So here's what we got.

Traded 2nd and 3rd round pick, plus traded a LOW 4th:

To get

Dee Ford, Emmanuel Sanders, HIGH 5th

Depends how he performs and what FAs the 49ers sign. I'm not worried about the comp pick, just eager to see how much of an impact Sanders will have on the offense this season.

We may be able to recoup those picks with draft day trades, if not I'm good with Dee Ford and Sanders. It would be hard to land a 3rd or 4th round receiver that can help our offense right now. Plus he seems like a great mentor for the young recievers.

Question is, since we traded picks and not a player. Who gets cut to make room for Sanders spot on the roster?
Bourn, James, D-lineman?

Matthews.
I really like this trade a lot. I know people are upset with getting rid of our third and fourth round picks. But I fully expect to draft late in the first round and I have a feeling they will trade out of the first and pick up at least a second and a third this year with maybe something else for the 2021 draft.
We drafted a bunch of WRs and now use more picks to get another one.

6-0, 6-0, 6-0. Its all good.

That is awful lot to put on one goddamn trade that could have zero direct bearing on how a playoff run plays out. There are way too man variables to put all your eggs in that basket. All you can do is react to conditions as they stand, right now we are a serious contender with a glaring weakness...they did something to shore that up and make a run at the big brass ring. I cant fault them for that even if it doesn't work out.

Do what teams like Baltimore, NE and Seattle do. Trade back, get your 3rd back. There's always ways of adding more picks but none of those picks are helping this team win games at the moment.

This....teams always want to move back into the bottom of the 1st for the option.

IIRC Seattle had like 4 picks this past draft and ended up with 11 after trades. We're fine

Jordan Matthews.

No way they cut James, he's our KR and PR, no way we cut a DL, we're deep, have to keep that, so Matthews is odd man out, he played like 3 snaps Sunday, not worth a roster spot. Bourne played well but I'd let him go when Hurd or Taylor comes back.

We might have 7 WRs unless the 49ers trade Goodwin at the deadline. If they can get a 4th for Goodwin, I'd be fine with it.

if we believe this, it looks like a 30 year receiver will typically perform at about baseline career level and decline to around 90% - 90% performance over the next three years.
Traded for basically a late 3rd. The late 4th rd for their early 5th rd is close to a wash.

I like it but don't love it. Hopefully, he balls out and proves he was worth a 3rd.

Really feel like we could've gotten him with just a 4th or a 4th and Goodwin or something. I mean, we all wanted to trade for a WR but we do have like 27 receivers on the team already which won't be utilized so I think we should've sent one their way with just ONE draft pick

You think they gave up extra comp just for the heck of it? That was the going rate after Sanu went for a 2nd.

Not only do they add Sanders, they kept him away from other NFC competitors such as Carolina, New Orleans and Green Bay.

Yup. John Lynch better get on his knees for John Elway because we just cock blocked those other teams

That made laugh.
s**t just for that, I love this trade!
Living in a Denver, I'm guessing the team didn't like Sanders' comment after the last week's game. He basically said the scheme was trash and they need better plays.

He restrained himself and stopped short of blaming the OC. He told the reporters to be real and that they all knew what the problem was on offense.
One thing i dont see mentioned is having a proven vet WR on this team helping out the young bloods. goodwin had one good year and besides that nothing to it. So we have NO other reliable recievers on this roster. I hope hes able to coach up the youth just like uncle sherman has helped with, whether it be work ethic, understanding coverages or whatever. Hes automatically our best WR and shows this front office expects to make a run this year. LETS GO!!
He's gonna take pressure off the young receivers in turn making everyone better. Should be a major difference.
