He probably thought to himself that since most teams that loose the SB dont do well the next year, and the fact that he wanted to play for a contender, and he wanted some more money too, made NO seem like a perfect fit. While I was disappointed to see him go at first, I then thought to myself that if he really really wanted to stay here, he surely would have. His loyalty was limited, and in a way I do get it since this is a business. But with that said too, our front office also knows its a business and was not about to overpay for a 33 year old WR. If you take a look at the WR's in the 1st Round of this draft, not just at 13, but at 31 too, this class is very deep with WR talent. If we end up landed a really good WR in the 1st Round (which should not be that hard), then that rookie's production i bet would end up matching Sanders if he stayed. Look at Deebo this past year.....hell, if our next 1st Round rookie WR does anything like that, then our front office will look smart not overpaying Sanders. Jerury, Lamb, Ruggs, Mims, Higgins, (plus a couple others whos names escape me right now) I see all of then doing well in the NFL.
The real question is WHEN do we take a WR in this draft.....I know most are saying at 13...and i would have no issue with that. But if this class is really deep at the WR spot, and lets say Higgins or Mims is there at 31, then what would you say? Should we trade back from 13 and maybe land a late 1st, 2nd, and a 4th? We still could land a really good WR, as well as a CB, OL, and maybe an EDGE or DL as well. I would be very surprised if Lynch kept both 1st Round Picks and did not trade back one of them. Plus, I am still optomistic that Hurd will be back. i know that back injuries are not easy to return from right away. While it is not career ending, it can take 1-2 seasons. The last report I read on him was they expect him to be a 'full go' come OTA's. Of course, we have no idea now when the hell OTA's are going to be, but we shall see.
I think there is s slight chance we have a shortened season this year if this damn virus thing takes longer then thought to drop in numbers. I have Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer and ended up in the hospital with that virus. I was never as sick as that. I was very scared I would never see my wife again. I was in the hospital for a week and just got home 3 days ago. However, I am still not feeling well and isolating myself in our den for 10 days. While the symptoms are not as bad as last week, they still are there. I was told it could take another 2 weeks for me to recover....ugh. And I am sure I will have permenant damage to my already CF damaged lungs. ----but I digress, for me football, the combine, the draft, it all acts as a distraction for me from all this bad crap. Its why I like reading all these posts from you guys, so thank you for that. I am hoping the draft doesnt get postponed as I am looking forward to it very much.
Anyway, please all of you stay healthy and safe.
Nice post and thank! I hope you and your family staying safe as well. The only problem with trading down when people say it's a deep draft, what they might not be considering is there's a reason players are taken after certain players and it's almost always because they have less talent and might be a less impactful player. I understand the draft is a crapshoot at times but we did not just trade deforest Buckner in order to not get an elite talent and possibly player rather than trading down and getting a solid prospect with less talent who we hope can make a difference on our Super Bowl ready team.
