everyone wanted Matthews in the offseason as a veteran that can help the young WR's... Here's your guy. A vet that can start and teach by example.

Agreed. It was a must.

We need another RELIABLE weapon to take pressure off Kittle. He's also a veteran to help the young guys. He's also very good.

Really no down side. It was a necessity.

A second for the Pats is essentially a high 3rd. And they had the extra picks.

That is still way too much for a super slow possession receiver that can't do s**t on a loaded offense with a great quarterback throwing to him not to mention he is their fourth option behind Jones Ridley hopper? Come on man we got a way better trade

People don't understand if we do as well as we are capable of and the tank really takes hold in Denver....this could be like two spots.

The Patriots got the cream (namely Sanu who is by far the better player), instead the 9ers got the bottom of the barrel by overpaying someone who won't add to the current WR corps with the active players we have. Big mistake in my opinion.

Don't kid ourselves, our hope lies in whether Jalen Hurd will be able to come back who is a difference maker type WR that the 9ers need and not just another small and shifty guy that we have in abundance.

Lol.

Yeah, I did too!

Lol.

Double lol

Emmanuel Sanders-32-7,400 yards receiving, 13.1 YPC, 39 TDs

Mohamed Sanu-30-4,300 yards receiving, 11.5 YPC, 25 TDs

In 2 more seasons, Sanders has 3,000 more yards receiving.

Seasons over 1,000 yards receiving:

Sanders-3
Sanu-0

And as I pointed out this morning, Sanu has 47 plays of 20+ yards in his career. Sanders has 110 plays of 20+ yards, and now how Schemey McSchemerson drawing up the plays and calling em'.
Can he play sunday?

Do what teams like Baltimore, NE and Seattle do. Trade back, get your 3rd back. There's always ways of adding more picks but none of those picks are helping this team win games at the moment.

Exactly. Unless there's a stud WR1 we can get in the first we can trade like crazy. We need to bolster the o-line and other depth. It's a nice scenario.

and our 3rd is essentially a high 4th at this point

Maybe we punked the Patriots into giving up extra so we could get the guy we really wanted all along.

lol the Patriots basically traded Jimmy Garoppolo for Mohamed Sanu.
whose position does he take though?

I'm guessing Pettis
I love that the chicken little crew were begging for a legit #1 and now that we have the best option that was out there (unless Green ever got healthy) they hate it. We traded a low 3rd for him. The 4th rounder for their 5th is gonna be about 10 spots at most. Then if he walks thats likely a 3rd round compensatory pick based off his salary and play time this season.

So as of right now (Not resigned yet) depending on where we finish we got Sanders ,a #1 WR for moving down around 1-10 spots in the 3rd (compensatory pick) and moving down around 1-10 spots in the 4th/5th round. (depending on our finish and denvers finish/5throunder)

yeah... I know a lot of us love the draft and whatnot... but if we can make a run this year, why wait and hope that some mid round pick hits.

A 3rd and 4th for a 32 year old WR.

Look, I trust Shanny and Lynch. They have done a really good job building this roster into a playoff caliber team. But that was too much to cough up for a 32 year old WR likely on a one year rental, maybe a one or two year extension.

I don't care what anyone says, this was a desperation move, a desperation move brought on by the inconsistent play at the WR position. In particular, this is a serious indictment on one healthy Dante Pettis. I am on record as not wanting to draft him, wasn't particularly happy when we drafted him, and I was out on Pettis long before this trade.

Now, don't get me wrong, I really like Emmanuel Sanders. And I fully expect him to have an immediate impact. This team was already a playoff team without him. With him we have a legit SB chance. With the murderous row portion of our schedule still to come a consistent WR to balance Shanny's offense so teams will pay dearly for doubling Kittle.

But make no mistake about it, this is NOT a future move, it's a move for THIS year. He's in the last year of his deal, and at 32 coming off a major injury I cannot see us resigning him to a multi-year deal. For me, the fact that we had to give up future draft picks for a 32 year old WR coming off major injury speaks volumes about Pettis. And this is what bothers me about this trade.

Late 3rd+a late 4th for an early 5th and a high quality veteran receiver.

The 4th and 5th might be like 10 picks apart. So really they gave up a late 3rd to try and go in on making the playoffs and winning in the playoffs with a proven playmaker.
This isn't my issue. The fact that we had to even make this trade in the first place is my issue. We had to couch up future draft picks for a 32 year old one year rental . Again, this is an indictment on Pettis (a healthy Pettis), who seems to be more focused on the color of his hair more than football, who obviously cannot seem to bother himself to visit the weight room (which go directly to why Shanny has to scheme Pettis open).

I am so pissed that we had to do this, that it had to come to this.
