How many midgets can you fit on one field. A ton. Kyle is a genius.

A 3rd and 4th for a 32 year old WR.

Look, I trust Shanny and Lynch. They have done a really good job building this roster into a playoff caliber team. But that was too much to cough up for a 32 year old WR likely on a one year rental, maybe a one or two year extension.

I don't care what anyone says, this was a desperation move, a desperation move brought on by the inconsistent play at the WR position. In particular, this is a serious indictment on one healthy Dante Pettis. I am on record as not wanting to draft him, wasn't particularly happy when we drafted him, and I was out on Pettis long before this trade.

Now, don't get me wrong, I really like Emmanuel Sanders. And I fully expect him to have an immediate impact. This team was already a playoff team without him. With him we have a legit SB chance. With the murderous row portion of our schedule still to come a consistent WR to balance Shanny's offense so teams will pay dearly for doubling Kittle.

But make no mistake about it, this is NOT a future move, it's a move for THIS year. He's in the last year of his deal, and at 32 coming off a major injury I cannot see us resigning him to a multi-year deal. For me, the fact that we had to give up future draft picks for a 32 year old WR coming off major injury speaks volumes about Pettis. And this is what bothers me about this trade.

Late 3rd+a late 4th for an early 5th and a high quality veteran receiver.

The 4th and 5th might be like 10 picks apart. So really they gave up a late 3rd to try and go in on making the playoffs and winning in the playoffs with a proven playmaker.
This isn't my issue. The fact that we had to even make this trade in the first place is my issue. We had to couch up future draft picks for a 32 year old one year rental . Again, this is an indictment on Pettis (a healthy Pettis), who seems to be more focused on the color of his hair more than football, who obviously cannot seem to bother himself to visit the weight room (which go directly to why Shanny has to scheme Pettis open).

I am so pissed that we had to do this, that it had to come to this.

Nonsense. If Pettis was the only disappointing roster of the 8(!) we have on the team, then we wouldn't have to make this move.

I love that the chicken little crew were begging for a legit #1 and now that we have the best option that was out there (unless Green ever got healthy) they hate it. We traded a low 3rd for him. The 4th rounder for their 5th is gonna be about 10 spots at most. Then if he walks thats likely a 3rd round compensatory pick based off his salary and play time this season.

So as of right now (Not resigned yet) depending on where we finish we got Sanders ,a #1 WR for moving down around 1-10 spots in the 3rd (compensatory pick) and moving down around 1-10 spots in the 4th. (depending on our finish and denvers finish/5throunder)

Not so sure he nets us a 3rd. Maybe a 4th or 5th... but still. A good move.

I was basing it off his salary which is what they supposedly take into account for comp picks. But even if its a fourth its still just swapping a 3rd for a 4th. Still good value.
People will complain if we don't make moves; people will complain when we do make moves.

I, for one, love it. For those crying about not having a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick in 2020, don;t just look at "what", look at "WHY":

We trade a 2nd rounder for Dee Ford who has helped create a historically great 49er defense. Now we trade a 3rd round pick (because I consider our 4th rounder and Denver's 5th Rounder comparable, thus, a wash) to add a a veteran, system-fit WR.

Sure we could save that 3rd round pick, but what does that guarantee? Half of those complaining about this move are the ones that think Pettis (2nd Rounder) is too soft, Deebo Samuel (2nd Rounder) is too small/inconsistent, and Jalen Hurd (3rd Rounder) is damaged goods. Clearly these day-2 picks are far from a guarantee, so why not trade for a proven commodity? It's all a calculated risk, anyway.

Plus, there is no guarantee that this defensive unit can maintain its dominance beyond this year, let alone during a potential playoff run -- heck, we don't even know if key players like Armstead or Ward will be in 49er uniforms next year.

If this trade tells me something, it's that John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan know our window is officially open. In the NFL World, these windows can close on you in an instant if you hesitate, because It's a Cold-Effin-Business. So, to make a move without completely mortgaging our future (i.e., multiple 1st round picks or our core talent) is welcomed, in my eyes.

Let's do this, BABY!!!!

LOL. You have become a stats slave. I wonder whatever happened to qualitative research?? Hmm...

You have totally failed to analyze what kind of WR can actually add to the current WR corps.

Last we need is yet another small WR, we have a ton of them.

What we need is someone who can provide more of a matchup challenge with a bit more size and power.

Yup just like Jordon Matthews has done for us this yr

man why are such a size queen....kinda weird

Yeah, once he passes his physical, he'll be all good to play Sunday, and we can use him against a good Panthers defense.

any idea if Denver took on some of his contract? I know the team trading usually does.

Teams usually don't do that, except for the desperate Texans.

His salary for the first 7 weeks are obviously paid by the Broncos, if that is what you meant.

A lot of people here still do not know playoff football in the NFL.
All I can say is you need not only talent but a lot of experience at any skill positions to avoid becoming one dimensional.

We could be the most talented bunch, but with inexperience, Billecheat will exploit us!
Sanders game reminds me of AB's game, he's got great hands and speed and gets in and out of his routes quickly.

Does he really have speed at this stage of his career?

Exactly.

Everything else doesn't matter. He gets open and is a reliable pass catcher, that's what matters.

Doesn't that slow us down a bit?

He may have lost a step from a few years ago but he still tracks the ball downfield better than most receivers.

They can still put Sanders and Goodwin out there together to really back off a defense.
Didn't this dude tear an acl or Achilles last year?
