I see what you're saying, but to me there's one key difference: the rules continue to trend more and more in favor of offenses. As offensive rules become more favorable, the bar for being a good passer drops. Offensive efficiency has exploded. Garbage quarterbacks put up huge numbers now.

Stricter enforcement of illegal contact means receivers get better separation. Quarterbacks have larger windows to throw in, more margin for error. The pussification of roughing the passer makes elusive quarterbacks even more deadly, because less big/borderline hits is going to translate to better durability.

It's hard for defenses to innovate and "catch up" when the rules are forcing them to play with one hand behind their back.

Lamar is the new prototype of mobile QB who can actually throw, AND has elite running vision.

He's changing the game with those two factors.

Yes, but Cam and RG3 were agile like Lamar. So was Mike Vick.

But running in the middle of the field is a dangerous game long term. If he was running along the sidelines where he could step out of bounds, great.. or if he slid in the middle of the field with defenders far from him, great.

But Lamar is literally taking hits like a RB in the middle of the field at times. Like how Cam used to.

And Cam is 6'5" 250...and he was STILL getting hurt. Lamar is 6'2 212.. similar to RG3

Darren Sproles takes more hits than both Jackson & Newton combined, so what does size have to do with anything?

Jackson actually runs behind his pads like a RB, and there were actually people on this board that thought he should move to RB or WR. So why do we think that Jackson will get hurt? I think his style of play is sustainable in todays soft a$$ NFL.

You make a good point, hitting will be banned and flag football will be the game.

It's almost 7on7 now.

Any big hit is a flag, there should be a penalty called "hitting too hard".

It would sound like this:

Personal foul, hitting too hard, #42 of the defense. #42 for San Francisco has been disqualified so that softer players can score touchdowns, please reset the clock to 2 minutes and 48 seconds, 15 yards penalty and an automatic 1st down for New England.

Then the announcers can go back to saying how great Tom Brady is.
If Seattle taught me one thing it is that the refs won't typically call more than 5 penalties on the secondary in a game. You set the tone hitting the QB early on and you don't let up even if a couple flags fly. Eventually the refs tap out and the game has to be played. We can't just let Lamar run all over us. He has a neck like Patrick Willis so we have to hit him accordingly. Obliterate this dude every time it even looks as if he still has the ball

This. I remember Kap having some hot starts against that Seattle D and then by the end of the game somehow found us behind because they knocked the snot out of us for a full 60.

I'm not saying Niners will win, but they will come ready for a fight, and won't roll over because the ravens have a full bandwagon.

Sometimes hype can be a death sentence.

But the problem is they wear out quicker then a traditional QB. They aint no mobile QBs playing in their late 30s. I give Jackson 4 more years till he is worn out.

Is an appropriate time to open a thread on mobile QBs. But, nothing else matters unless Kyle is prepared to consider or re-consider in fact on his stance on mobile QBs. The dude only wants pocket passers who has come up from pro systems. He doesn't want anyone coming from a college which runs a spread system. The idea is pocket passers are supposed to be able to read defenses better whereas their spread mobile QB counterparts are just athletes. He wouldn't even consider Mahomes, let alone super mobile running QBs like Jackson.

Kyle is smart. Hes already realized it or is realizing that athletic QBs might be the future of the NFL.

A couple reasons.

You will start seeing more of an influx of talent with mobile QBs. More and more colleges are doing this, thus, more mobile QBs will be available in the NFL.

More colleges are playing spread as well, which means mobile QBs and also OL that are not NFL pro offense trained. When you have a poor OL, it doesnt matter if you have Marino back there, you can't win consistantly with a bad OL. You then need a QB who can move.

Lastly, DL are getting better and better, while OL really arent. If you are a 6 4 240 lb high school player that runs a 4.7, you arent playing OL, you are gonna be a DE or put on weight and play DT, or even a TE. So there will be a lot more freaks on defense than the OL, (which is already the case) making it easier for teams to put together a great DL. And we all know the kryptonite of any pocket passer, rushing only 4 and getting to him.

And if players like Jackson and Murray play at a high level, coaches will start turning that 6 ft guy in high school who was told before he cant play QB, but is an athletic freak, into QBs. So i think we are just starting to see the rise of mobile QBs, and soon you will see guys like Hill and Breida, grow up to play QB and not WR or RB.

How many colleges run a pro system? Not many

When you draft players your projecting, Mahomes is doing great in the wco. Shanahans lack of vision is costing him big time.
