it was more fun than the 2012 super bowl team in my opinion. if we had went to the super bowl in 2011 i bet we would not have lost, i have no time for teams that went to the super bowl and lost. actually i have no time for coaches who allowed our team to lose winnable super bowls
Love this news.

Beautiful family, healthy (more or less), and tons of dough in the bank. In his mid-30s. As others have said, I can see him coaching in the future.

I was actually shocked he came back last year. I get that the rehab was on company dime, but still.

I can see him taking a few years off to enjoy life and then get back into football in some capacity. I think most people think he will make a good coach (I dont disagree), but I personally can see him getting behind the mic before I see him getting back on the field as a coach.
He had nothing else to prove. Really glad he is (literally) able to walk away from the game.

This was an all-time sports moment for real Niner fans. After all that misery. Alex, Frank, Pat, Joe... felt so good for those guys

I remember these last few minutes well.

Graham scored that TD and Sproles with the two pointer and I looked over somewhat defeated to my friend. He told me intensely as the kickoff was about to happen "get up!".

Still remember the epic TD aftermath well. Jumping up going crazy, people picking each other up, haha....

I had a Ravens fan over and he was talking s**t the entire game just to incite ("Sproles for 10"), but at the end he was like "that was pretty f**king dope!".

I remembered calling my Dad and brother. We all took a shot of Private Stock, and was my most elated moment in 3 years living in Charleston, SC.

BTW, this video in real time.....the game winning drive only took 3 and a half minutes! Definitely felt longer than that....

If not the best game I've ever been at, it's definitely in the top 3! Still makes me want to jump up and down screaming everytime I see it!

it was perfect that game was played at the stick.. the last time it was that loud there was the come from behind win over the giants in the playoffs..... i always thought alex looked a bit like garcia as both high stepped into the end zone when they scored their respective touchdowns.... i loved that team soo much

I'm not crying, you're crying!
Frustrating as hell when he is your starting QB, but a first class man and I wish him nothing but the best.

The world, not just the league, could use a few more men like Alex Smith.
Props to Alex for a good career. Even tho he never lived up to that #1 pick he still managed to have solid career. Good dude
