This is what gets me lol

"had we won in 2011 we would have won the SB" lol how about we beat the damn Giants and we don't have to worry about what ifs.

It's like people forget Alex couldn't even convert a 3rd down hat game. Got outplayed by Eli. We had an all time defense that just needed Alex to drive for one-ONE damn FG. Couldn't do it.

Instead, a rookie WR felt the need to make a play because it damn sure wasn't going to come from Alex who folded like a cheap tent.

No need to feel sorry. Alex's playoff record was 2-5 compared to Kap's 4-2.

part of me wants to say you missed my point. but why bother

Just reminding you of facts. Not what ifs. So, that you don't feel sorry for your past feelings that were completely justified.
and i still thought we made the right pick until half way through the 8-8 season when i realized that ck was a one trick pony that could only take you to a few towns

You mean when our FO tried trading our coach that offseason and were full of off the field distractions between HC and FO? And a team devastated by injuries? Yeah surprised we even went 8-8. That's actually, impressive lol

so you put alex in the same company of andre ware. leaf, rick mirer, jamarcus russell.... ok. and people think i am nuts

i'm sure a few of those guys could have succeeded on the 49ers with that elite defense we had and even took us to a super bowl.

regardless he made the best decision by retiring...he looked awful last year esp against us. He couldn't complete a single pass and needed haskins to come in and win the game.

Neither have a ring so it doesn't matter. Alex played well in a few playoff games, but his wins/loss record in the playoffs sucked. Kap choked in the big moments in Seattle and in the SB.
Smith's NFC championship game was brutal.. I was there. Kyle Williams is why we lost, but the offense didn't play well as a whole.

do you remember who his WRs were that game?
I don't consider Alex a bust. He was just another example of QBs that get picked by bad teams and never get the support to succeed. My guess is that half the QBs that fail do so because of poor coaching and the team not building a good team around them. It's why I have always felt that you need to build a decent offense and a good defense before you go for the QB and try and take it to the next level. Which ever QB gets selected by SF has a better chance to succeed early because of the team around him and the coach.

If Alex had been selected by Harbaugh, his career would have looked much different. Harbs knew how to build a team. I'm not saying Alex would have been a pro bowler but he would have been a lot better.

Kap was the main reason for being in the game against an ALL TIME great defense in Seattle. Kap carried us to 5 yds from a SB before coaches playcalling and time management killed it.

Alex choked in the NFCC. Reverted back to Mr Happy feet in his biggest game. Never sniffed another championship game again.

Alex playoff record 2-5. Sucked when it mattered.

Kap was 4-2. Broke records in the playoffs. Went sleeveless in Lambeau and outdueled a HOF. Went on he road beat a top Panthers defense. Brought back 9ers from a big deficit in a Championship game in ATL.

Sorry facts hurt.
Nothing to prove, he's a warrior.

Never proved to be worthy of a #1. But I do agree he was a warrior. Actually, all NFL players are warriors for the punishment they endure. Nothing but props on that front.

All of that is true but Alex had his moments as well. He played much better when Harbaugh was coach. Keep in mind that the Niners were already pretty good when Kap was drafted. By the time he came to the Niners, Alex already had 5 coaches and 5 coordinators. Hardly the recipe for success.

I consider Alex to be a massive bust for the 49ers, but not his career as a whole. Alex turned into an average QB who you could win with if you had the right pieces around him. We didnt do him any favors as our QB, and he didnt do us many either. Unfortunately, getting drafted on a s**t team can do that to a lot of young QBs.

Alex definitely deserves a ton of credit for persevering and turning his career around in KC. But Alex was a massive disappointment as a 49er.

Going sleeveless is cute, but who gives a f**k. Reality is that he choked in Seattle and in the Super Bowl. Hence, no rings. Playoff records don't matter if you don't have a ring. That's the fact that is hurting you. Also, Kap's good play sample was only 1.5 years so it gets lost unless we are discussing social activism. He wasn't good enough for long enough

alex struggled in some playoff games and he was only a pro bowl level QB that one year in KC. I wish if he could have made one more play in the NFCCG, but the offense struggled and Kyle Williams lost the game

you're too biased. You're a hardcore Kap fan and you hate Alex. So no matter what, you can never look at this subjectively

Do you remember who Alex's WRs were in the NFCCG?

Edit: you know what really pisses me off? The 2012 Niners were way better than the f**king Ravens!

I would give Alex the benefit of the doubt for years prior to Harbs but Alex fans wouldn't do he same for Kap with Tomsula/ Chip and a team full of 3rd stringers or Harbs last year in which FO was trying to get rid of him and a team devasted by injuries in which they still managed to avoid a losing season.

So, we can only compare both with good teams.
And that is Alex 2-5 and Kap 4-2.

RIP Alex Smith thread....

He should have retired after the horrible leg injury but it's good to see he's finally got it out of his system
