I asked you to move on, now you can take a break for awhile.
Not sure why the hate. With a good team around him he did fine. Great memories vs saints. Incredible class when dealing with the b's kap situation - the worst mistake by this franchise in the last two decades. Herbs == doofus.

Never minded a game manager for QB as long as they didn't become game wreckers like you know who. Good guy showing grit and perseverance to come back from horrible injury. Nothing but applause for Mr Smith.
Longer career than Joe Montana

Drafting him maybe.
Congratulations Alex. I hope you have a great retirement!

Remember that time Alex had more sacks than total yards? Truly the worst QB'd game in NFL history and it's not even close. Supplanted by Gabbert. Then completely out of the entire league.

Was that the season Alex threw 1td and 11 picks and posted a 40.8 rating?

Just move on. You're not bringing anything that hasn't already been talked about the last few pages.

i thought you were good sac? What happened?

What are you talking about?

Are my posts in the Covid thread as off-putting as this fookin guy in here right now?
Looking back, he was the face of the 49ers failures during all those bad years but not the cause. If you put a young Alex Smith on this team with Shannahan as his coach, the arc of his career would be much different. People will talk about players like Rogers for their performance, but smith will have earned lasting respect.
Congrats to Alex. One of my all time favorite 49ers. And the playoff game against the 'Aints was one of the greatest football games I have ever seen.

also, that 2005 49ers team that a 20 year old Smith got drafted by, was hands down one of the worst all around teams I can remember. But Nolan looked tight in that suit, so there's that.

This should be moved permanently to Niner Talk.
I have nothing but respect for Alex...Coach Nolan didn't know how to use him, there weren't nearly enough pieces around him to succeed. Enter Harbaugh and we all saw what Alex could really do...it's a shame an injury ended his Niner career, but in KC he got them to the playoffs and even better mentored Mahomes in a way that insured Patrick was ready to go. PM himself will vouch for the impact Alex had on him. Off to WFT, only to suffer one of the most gruesome injuries I've ever seen. Darn near died...double-digit surgeries. Turning point was spending time with wounded military vets, many of whom were worse off then he was. He took that to heart, pushed himself relentlessly and made his successful comeback. Alex, you are one helluva football player and an even better man. Best wishes always.
I don't think Alex Smith got nearly enough credit for being tough while he was a Niner. I had never seen a QB come back the same year from a throwing arm separation. And then, if memory serves, Nolan or Singletary questioned his toughness. I thought, 'are they nuts?', this guy's been getting his ass kicked year in and year out playing through injuries with an OL built for the run, not protection and a line of losers for OC's??!! Come on. I think the way they used Smith was a textbook example of how some teams can destroy potential QB talent sometimes.
Here is a very nice article by Jeffri Chadiha of NFL.com. He sums Alex up very well.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. Smith is a good dude but it's hard not to call out Sacs b******t in here. If anyone here is to blame it's him for starting with his crap. You should have seen this coming. He only post to antagonize. Which I ignore most of the time but sometimes you just have to call it out. And Alex just happens to get caught in the cross fire lol

I was posting about Smith retiring and you started bashing him... then we were having a convo and you got upset

I concede. You won. Let's move on now. You were right

You and Cc started it knowing damn well what it was going to lead to.

Anyways, nice little back and forth. Let's just focus on Alex and not he QB that supplanted him.

all i said. was i am sorry alex for picking ck over you..
