Didn't he also come back to us when he could've said fuk this steaming pile of s**t. I'm always getting blamed. I'm gonna try to resurrect my career elsewhere. Then came back and began our ownership of the saints which my boy Jimmy GQ continued....

a real role model. Too bad a lot of us (myself included) got fooled by a flash in the pan Colon I can't play so I'll protest sackorPick. (I'll end it at that) one of the posters was right. With Alex as our QB in that Super Bowl we win it.
Sensible decision by Alex. I wish him a great retirement life with his wife and kids.

No there shouldn't.

We have to put up 600 statues before we got to Alex deserving one.
Awesome how much respect he's getting all over social media and sports platforms. His face was plastered everywhere yesterday. Definitely a guy cherished among professionals and fans all across the entire NFL. Good for him.

Interesting that he won over the entire sports community, yet some Niner "fans" still cling to their emotional hatred of him for not living up to being the #1 pick. Even though he had ZERO say in that. Lol.

yes, that is what i was talking about. he could have walked away but instead he held camp alex, i think the nfl was on strike or something odd that year when jh was hired???? can not remember... and alex swiped a copy of the playbook. got a bunch of guys together and installed the offense on their own. he never had to do that and who knows. had he not done that. we may have never gotten off to that hot start that year. yes i think that 2011 special year.. we would have won the super bowl with alex at the helm. i understand our lackluster third down showings vs the giants but we almost won in spite of that. pretty special team. that team is in my top 3 of favorite niner teams behind the first super bowl team. the second super bowl team. and the 1976 gold rush team coming in 4th followed by the 2019 team

That 2011 team was one of my favorites. I was at that NFCCG against the Giants, all we needed was Kyle Williams to run away from those punts and we win easily. Not to mention Ahmad Bradshaw ABSOLUTELY fumbled. We dominated that game.

I believe you're right about the strike, or lockout. Alex had no contract with a coach he barely knew. But he got everyone together and held his own camp. Definition of leadership and team first mentality.

The 49ers FO and staff f'd him over, not Alex Smith. Played under 3 head coaches (Nolan, Singletary, Harbaugh), 3 GMs (Nolan, McCloughan, Baalke), and 6-7 offensive coordinators (McCarthy, Turner, Hostler, Martz, Raye / Johnson, Roman). And he was able to overcome all of that and become a higher end serviceable starter.

My feelings exactly. People forget how good he was in college under Urban Myer and how well he ran the option. Unfortunately the coaches and OCs he had when he came to the 49ers were clueless about how to use him. Not to mention that they didn't have good players around him. He had enough talent to at least be a top 20 or top 15 QB but he took such a verbal and physical beating early on that he never realized his full potential. Like I said in an earlier post, a lot of QBs never have the career they could have because of incompetent coaches and GMs.

roman never should have called a reverse to kyle with a wet ball on a wet field and that was a predictable disaster that led to the giants first score. i also blame jh,,,, he saw kyle messed up the first time.... he should have dropped NO ONE back there the second time. but he went with kyle and well,. we know what took place. thank you for clearing up that off season. i just remember we all thought alex was done. jh said wait a minute... then alex was a little scamp. stole a play book and did camp alex.. love it!!
