Was not aware that Smith has the best TD/INT ratio in NFL post-season history (14/2). Good stuff.

That one to Vernon Davis at the end is pretty cool. Careers came full circle for both of them there. Great moment (among many others in there).

it will never show up in a highlight reel.. but the way he kept his cool and kept the team under control during the two key games in 2011 vs detroit and the eagles.. i think in both games we were down. announcers were dogging us and a previous alex or niner team would have folded up. but on the road led us to wins... very very special

That Philly game was the first time in a long time that the niners gave me hope
agree,, the lions game cemented that fact that this team was going to be special

bull rushing breese in the playoff game and grabbing him by the scruff of the back of his neck was so cool

This was the best comeback of Alex's Niner career. I remember how frustrated I was with him in the first half, and how different he looked in the second. One of the few standout games for me.

I don't want to say "too" high, you're entitled to think whatever you want. Just seems unusually high.
I was just thinking... IF Alex Smith had more offensive continuity around him in the beginning and never got injured and we got a decade of him performing like he did in 2011/2012 under Harbaugh and his 5 years with Andy Reid... how would we as a fanbase remember him?

If his regular seasons looked like 3400 yards passing, 20 TDs, 5 INTs, 300 yards rushing, and playoff appearances every year, I think we'd have been very happy with him as a perennial fringe Pro Bowler. I want to say that under McCloughan/Baalke, they built pretty good teams, especially on defense. Alex has never been one to carry his team in the way that a Rodgers or Brady do, but his efficiency, game management, and leadership resulted in a lot of winning football when he was surrounded with good coaches and talent. I definitely think we could've won a Super Bowl with him, Frank Gore, and a quality defense.

I just think though, he would still end up being victim to the pressure of a team wanting to upgrade at QB to get over the hump. Harbaugh tried to upgrade to Manning after 2011 and ended up replacing hm with Kaep. The Chiefs upgraded to Mahomes. Our franchise is spoiled with all-time great NFL QBs and being QB of the 49ers is a very tough place to be.

I am not trying to start an argument Furlow, but how many real standout games do you think Alex had with the 49ers? For me, its the Saints game (obviously), this game, the Bills game and his 18 for 19 against the Cardinals.

I am getting older so my memory could be causing me to forget a game or 2, but I didnt think that saying that comeback win against the Eagles was one of the few standout games he had for us was something controversial.

If what you described happened, I believe we would rank him right below Steve Young.

I didn't realize you were limiting this to his time as a Niner. Even then, I can think of several games that jump out, particularly in that 2011 season. Didn't he lead the NFL in comeback wins that year? Anyway, not trying to start an argument either.

Yeah I said Niner career. All good. For 2011, my head immediately jumps to the Saints game and this game. And yes, Alex led the NFL in comebacks that season. But the Eagles comeback was the only one I remember him really putting the team on his back and leading us to victory.
