He's never seemed like a guy that likes the spotlight so it's a bit surprising imo. Cool though.

I think Alex would be an amazing asset to a broadcast team, like Romo is with Nantz.

Those two are a great pair. Romo certainly is not eloquent, however, his knowledge of the game and ability to recognize what is going on more than makes up for it.

What does that have to do with the current discussion?

I was thinking of former 49ers players who would be good on TV.

I love Alex Smith the person but I don't think he would be great on TV. Just like how I don't think Jerry Rice is. Mark Sanchez would probably be better than him and I don't care for Mark the person.

I hope I'm wrong cause I really do love Alex. We will see.

Isaac Bruce finally caught more passes than Gore in '08
lol

Heaven forbid you get the ball to the best weapon on the team.

we didnt give alex a decent WR till crabtree

The Joe Show!!

Seriously though, Alex comes off very bland. I don't see him anywhere near Romo, who definitely adds subtle emotion to his commentary.

This. Hard to see Smith as a TV personality, Sanchez does seem like a better fit.

Smith needs to be coaching, that he can be very good at.

The TV color analysts are there for entertainment. Face it, half the time they're just saying what we all saw on TV. Sometimes they can add some insight but there's only so much you can say between plays.

One of the best if not the best team was the cool and mellow Pat Summerall and the wild, bombastic Madden. They were a perfect balance for each other.
