Seriously though, Alex comes off very bland. I don't see him anywhere near Romo, who definitely adds subtle emotion to his commentary.

The TV color analysts are there for entertainment. Face it, half the time they're just saying what we all saw on TV. Sometimes they can add some insight but there's only so much you can say between plays.

One of the best if not the best team was the cool and mellow Pat Summerall and the wild, bombastic Madden. They were a perfect balance for each other.

Romo takes it to another level though with his predicting plays and seeing plays called to set up future plays. Madden was 100% reactionary and didn't really do much analysis.

Romo is a about as intricate as it gets matched with the home grown fan of football delivery.

I always thought Madden was annoying. He's only famous because he fell into a video game. His commentating during 49ers/Dallas games pissed me off. Dude didn't respect the WCO and was all about DAL power ball.

I grew up listening to Madden call 49ers games and I always thought he was great, and always seemed to be fair to the Niners. He loved Rice, gave John Taylor tons of props (which nobody else ever did) and would never shut up about William Floyd during the 94 season lol. "Bar None" ugh

It is funny how I imagine we're in the same general age range and have such different takes on it, and Summerall and Madden were basically the voices of the 49ers for big games on CBS and Fox.

With Dallas I thought the love was pretty even from Madden - the one that drove me bonkers was when Favre arrived on scene. Good god did he love Brett Favre. Combine that with my utter hatred for Favre and a few of those playoff games had me going crazy.

Haha, oh man yeah I remember that. To be fair, Madden loved a lot of great football players, even if he did go overboard on some. It happens to everyone I think that is an extreme fan of the game.
Terry McLaurin talks about Coach Ron Rivera and Alex Smith both fighting against the odds to get the WFT into the playoffs and how that inspired the team.

"...what was so unique for our team last year is that (Smith) and coach Rivera were so unique in the adversities they were going through last year,"

"One thing with Alex, he was just cool, man," McLaurin said. "You come in the huddle, when you see (No.) 11 coming in, you feel like you have a chance. And the way he galvanized our team and put us in the best position to make a playoff run was really cool."

I don't know what WFT is doing bringing in Fitzpatrick. It goes against the foundation of how they won, which is ball security, running, and Defense. Jim Harbaugh style. Keep it close and go for the win in the 4th. They have improved the talent on offense, but I don't think it is enough to be able to overcome the mistakes of a QB like Fitzpatrick.

Ryan Fitzpatrick's INT% over the last two seasons was 2.7%

Alex Smith's INT% over the same time period (as a Redskin) was 2.2%

Are you seriously trying to claim that a 0.5% increase in INT% would be too much for the Skins to overcome? LOL cmon now man.

But his impact was real for his teammates: Washington went 5-1 with Smith starting and 2-9 with anyone else. During his time in Washington, the team was 11-5 with Smith starting and 6-27 with the rest.

Smith needs to be coaching, that he can be very good at.

I'm pretty sure that his experiences in so many different offensive systems, being one of the smarter QB's in his generation, and his willingness to grind would lend well to coaching. He could be a great asset to an offensive staff.

But from all the interviews I've seen of him, I get the sense that he wants to enjoy his family, who are well-documented for being so supportive of him. Coaching is such a grind. My assumption is that TV is the compromise to still being able to be involved with football, but not have to give up 80 hours a week.

Apparently, a very good professional football player, who happens to be on that team, appears to disagree with you.

That sucks if it's true.

And Fitz lifetime is below .500 and I believe is not even .500 with any of the 27 teams he's played with....

I could write a thesis on how Russell Wilson is an overrated QB, however he wins in a way Fitzpatrick never was able to.

Smith wins too.

I think Smith would do well on TV. When I lived in Europe he did some studio work for the BBC during the Super Bowls and he did well.

I will always be a big fan and hope for the best for him
