I'll take Mike Nolans words for it. That's is literally why they are took Alex. Literally... Like lit...er..a...ly.
"We put a lot of stock in changing Aaron's throwing style. We also got caught up a little bit in that Alex was so mobile. That was a good thing."

"The other thing as Alex at the time was a good kid -- a very good person, a safe choice, always trying to please. On the other hand, Aaron was very cocky, very confident, arrogant. So you can say, 'Why didn't you take him to begin with?' Because that's really what your best quarterbacks look like. They aren't very pleasing. They aren't very safe."

"Basically, we thought in the long term that Alex Smith would be the better choice than Aaron," Nolan said. "It was one of those, maybe, paralysis by analysis. We had so much time to think about it.

"We put a lot of stock in changing Aaron's throwing style. We also got caught up a little bit in that Alex was so mobile. That was a good thing. But in the end, we felt Alex would be the better long-time guy. Obviously, we were wrong in that thought process."

You can see he mentions mobility among other things. But again, similar 40 times and other measurements… and NFL results. Plus Mike Nolan was a f**king idiot. It's well known that he had a problem with perceived arrogance from Rodgers (good call on the quality. Bad call on what it meant)

Good snip. I included it all in my post!

I don't need a rebuttal to a claim that Alex Smith should have been used like Josh Allen. That's absurd and doesn't warrant a response.

He was inducted into the HOF for a reason, and thay reason wasn't Josh Allen style of play. He dominated in college, no one (including me) ever claimed otherwise.
He will be Jim Harbo's QB coach inn San Jego

Brock is more mobile than Alex and Rodgers apparently 40 times is a s**t metric in mobility.

Rodgers

40-4.75

20-2.79

10-1.71

Brock

4.83

2.73

1.61

Doesn't that imply he's quicker more than anything else?

None of the three are running QBs. All have mobility.

Alex Smith was in college. That's why we drafted him. As I pointed out and you're being difficult. One of Alex's biggest strengths was his running that's why we drafted him. We then proceeded to not use his mobility. Again... This is a reason Alex failed. Not the only reason but a huge reason. Nolan admits that why we drafted him for his mobility and Nolan admits that we failed him by not catering to his strengths.

i remember when they used to call him the white Michael vick at Utah

Randy Moss and Alex Smith will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as members of the 2024 class.

Well deserved. If we got college Alex instead of the version we got, we could very easily be on the quest for 7 right now.
What changes occurred to his game, when, and why? Did a genie wave a wand at the draft and make him a completely different player as of the day he became a pro?
