I really do hope he doesn't play again, but it is also hard to not root for him. He is probably the toughest player I have ever watched. Physically and mentally. I will never forget Nolan throwing him to the wolves against the Saints while he had a grade three shoulder separation. He took a beating in that game, and never complained.

Then all the QB carousels he dealt with in SF. He may not have been the best on the field, but no matter the circumstance, he never complained.
He can succeed. I pray he's not facing a Dravecki situation.
I think it would only take a handful of snaps played for Alex to win Comeback Player of the Year. That line opened at +6600. You guys should jump on it. Voters love a feel good story.

at +6600 i might as well put some money on it but i doubt he plays at all this year. They will see what they have on Haskins and thats assuming he is even healthy enough to play
I think if he plays it will be similar to Montana's last game as a Niner. Come in for a half (or a couple series) in a meaningless game. Throw a few completions and then ride off into the sunset.

He likely gets put on the IR this year.

He probably will never take another snap for the Redskins. They'll keep him on the roster until the dead money hit is more palatable.

And IMO, that could be enough to win that award considering where he was.
It's a shame that Alex almost had to lose his leg before he got this much love from Niner fans. I always felt he never really had a shot a being successful in SF until Harbaugh came along. Then just when things were going well for him, he gets a concussion, Kap takes over and he never gets his job back. Since being traded he's done nothing but win. Call him a game manager if you want but he managed them well.

If you are referring to me, my opinion of Alex hasn't changed even with this terrible ordeal he has gone through.

idk i think everyone was just frustrated with the whole team pre-harbaugh and the QB usually shoulders most of the blame. I'll admit i wasn't cheerful that Harbaugh decided to keep Smith, like most 49er fans. But i think he won everyone's respect and became a fan favorite in 2011. Even when he went to the Chiefs, i was rooting for the Chiefs over any non-49er team because i was such a fan of Smith.

He had 1.5 good seasons here. Besides him being a good guy and a good leader, there wasn't much to love as a player. Then he moved on to other teams, as did fans. This is true for many many players. They come and go.

What he went through and his attitude goes beyond being a good guy, team leader and good football player. It is inspirational. That's love.

I agree. The amount of passionate hate that he received from Niner fans was over the top. Yeah, he sucked before Harbaugh came and he shouldn't have been drafted number one. But the entire organization was horrendous. And while Alex was limited, he became a decent to good starter under Harbs. A good game manager that wasn't a liability for that philosophy.

Considering that he never said anything controversial and stays way under the radar, the venomous hate he received was odd and unfair. This isn't a Johnny Manziel type that is a controversial figure. He was treated much better in KC. There was one KC fan that used to post in here and was happy when Alex's leg snapped which got him banned from the Zone, but he received a lot of push back from KC fans when he obsessively hated on Smith. There will always be a segment of fans who hate on the QB, and Alex had a bit of that in KC but nothing like the fans here.

Is it bet $100 to win $6,600? I'd bet that. I don't even think he'll need to take any snaps. He might win the award just by being around the team and posting videos like this.

Looks like the odds are plummeting since I made the post. Its now $100 to win $2000 to $2500, depending on book. And the bolded was my point. The progress he has made from the injury to the video workouts alone might be enough for voters to pick him.

Its still a really good bet, IMO. (Ben Roethlisberger and Gronk are the favorites, if you are curious)
