Of course Haskins was named starter. He's their 1st round pick once you give them the keys you got to let him fail.

And Smith is coming off one of the worst injuries in NFL history. I would've been shocked if he got named the starter.
But if Haskins struggles, I can see Smith taking over around week 6.

LOST
I was even assuming he'll be in the practice squad considering the nature and severity of his injury but anyways they have so many first rounders with and a special one in Chase Young. If we'll be playing any NFC East team in the playoffs, their quarterback was already broken by Young.Originally posted by 16to87:https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/09/08/alex-smith-is-no-3-on-washington-depth-chart/Originally posted by TheXFactor:Originally posted by Bay2Bay9erAllday:Lost QB battle to Haskins

I mean it makes sense that Alex would be the backup, no? hasnt played in 2 seasons and they have to go with guys theyve had and drafted. alex is a class-act and will coach them up on the sidelines. good veteran presence. no doubt he's grateful just to be a backup at the very least playing again.

Alex isn't the future and Washington isn't going anywhere this year or next. He's there to mentor and probably not much else. Maybe they give him a few series just to complete the comeback.
