You can do all sorts of crimes and get a few games suspension, but if you gamble on games that's the most serious offense according to the NFL.

Yeah. This is garbage and they need to have a new set of standard punishments for each crime

A defensive back's job is to "cover"

It arguably is. It attacks the very integrity of the game on the field.

He is an idiot. We get enough accusations of games being fixed etc without dicks like this giving encouragement to the CTers.

Was he betting on games he could affect the outcome or just betting on games like a gambler would?
I don't see any harm gambling on other football props that have nothing to do with him.

This is a slippery slope and I agree that the punishments should be harsh. This guy has friends around the league and insider info. He may be leaking stuff to people or friends telling him they're going to let someone score etc.
You have to come down on this stuff Cause if it gets out that s**t like that is actually happening and it isn't fan speculation - it really does damage the integrity of the game

Its still a really bad look. You.cant just allow players to start betting on games. It will escalate into illegal bets as well. They make enough money playing the game.

I don't think the NFL has a whole lot of integrity but you can't allow players to gamble. It would mess with the fans minds to the point that they might not bet as much and Vegas would be screaming. Betting on the NFL both legal and illegal is an enormous business and they wouldn't want to hurt that.

If I knew a bunch of players, coaches etc were betting on games I wouldn't even want to watch the sport anymore. I would think that anything questionable was on purpose etc. sorta how boxing has been so rigged and cheated - it's lost it's popularity. Same thing will happen with football if they don't come down on this stuff hard and fast

it would make us think things like Pete Carroll's call to pass instead of run in the Super Bowl was on purpose cause he bet Russ would throw a certain amount of TDs or the saints rams game was non call on that PI cause the refs bet on something etc. it would just make the game terrible and would lose so many fans
