They're turning the game into something I no longer identify with. I still watch but for the first time I'm angry. Angry with the curbs on defense, the part time refs deciding games, the outlandish ticket prices, the cable cost for season viewership. They don't give anything back to the fans. If a diehard like me feels this way I'm sure many others feel the same way.

I just love football - the more games the better for me.

This. Should be a 50 game season imo

It's capitalism. Same thing as Amazon/FB/google etc...

IF there's a chance to make more cash, then they will look at it.

What do you want them to give back to you? It's entertainment just like going to the movies or watching Netflix. IF you don't like it, don't give them money/don't participate in it....it's really that simple.

this is a total s**t show lol, this is part of the reason they will never strike....no one is on the same page.

I agree, but for the fans that have witnessed the NFL for multiple generations it's just a different product. In the end it's just entertainment, "Are You Entertained?"

16 games and still pay the players.

It will be 17. Owners will get what they want. But players will get what they want as well. Any attempt by players to strike over this issue will go down in flames.

Will there be injuries? Of course! But the NFL has always been known as "next man up." It will continue to be that.
I hope they go on strike tbh. Don't even care at this point.

Owners are just starting negotiations high. They will meet somewhere in the middle, with the owners still winning, like always.

I mean, is it true the owners are really winning??

From what I've heard, they are going to actually stop a lot of those practices that cause pre-season injuries, and stop the young bulls trying to make the 53 from running around like lightning bolts hurting the players already on the team.

They want the $$$ that the 17th game brings in, not the injuries the 20 cancelled practices bring in.

In a sense it can be a win win for both the owners and the players assuming that its true they are adding only 1 game but canceling all the workouts and practices that they proposed to cancel. That saves weeks of a players body.

This, then they will extend the XFL season to 16 games.
This whole situation is ridiculous, the Owners want a No vote so they can push for 18 games, when is enough enough, we don't need 18 games, they want 2 more meaningful games and take away 2 games that mean s**t, the players hardly play in them anyway, more injuries is not best for the sport.

The NFLPA should be pissed at De Smith for allowing this proposal to hit the players, most players have already rejected this, they don't want more games. The NFL and Owners are f**king greedy.

All the owners and Godell care about is money and its the reason I decided to boycott the NFL after the super bowl. It's quite obvious that the league dictates big games to keep them close for TV ratings. I just cant support this manipulated league any longer. I hope the players strike.
18 is too many. The players will be beat to s**t. Especially those going deep into the playoffs. We're talking about a season from September to the end of February now. That doesn't even include OTA, TC, and preseason.

With only 2 preseason games, I think they'll be fine.

Sure they're greedy....just like every other major company.

Players need to think about that piece of the pie though. RIGHT NOW TV ratings are at their highest point. Getting a deal done let's the owners get a top end deal from the networks and locks the players into their % of the pie.

That could change in a yr or so. We just saw what a stupid virus can do to a stock market and people's 401K. Changing of a president (good or bad) war or whatever can change how big fat cats invest their cash.

would you rather have 48% of $200 or 50% of $150? Also if they don't sign now it will cost current and former players like $700 in 2020. Can they make up that cash? Will going on a strike makeup for that? I don't think so.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't just Smith that worked on the deal, it was the NFLA president and he deals with the reps off all 32 teams. This deal took months to come together.

My issue with it was 17 games was non-negotiable. That's stupid because that was basically their only negotiating chip. I would also be apposed to it being a 10 yr deal. Those should have been what they were pissed about IMHO.

The "owners are hoping for a No vote for 18 games" is a total smokescreen to scare players into voting Yes.

If the owners want a No vote, then 31/32 wouldn't have voted Yes lol.
