This whole situation is ridiculous, the Owners want a No vote so they can push for 18 games, when is enough enough, we don't need 18 games, they want 2 more meaningful games and take away 2 games that mean s**t, the players hardly play in them anyway, more injuries is not best for the sport.
The NFLPA should be pissed at De Smith for allowing this proposal to hit the players, most players have already rejected this, they don't want more games. The NFL and Owners are f**king greedy.
Sure they're greedy....just like every other major company.
Players need to think about that piece of the pie though. RIGHT NOW TV ratings are at their highest point. Getting a deal done let's the owners get a top end deal from the networks and locks the players into their % of the pie.
That could change in a yr or so. We just saw what a stupid virus can do to a stock market and people's 401K. Changing of a president (good or bad) war or whatever can change how big fat cats invest their cash.
would you rather have 48% of $200 or 50% of $150? Also if they don't sign now it will cost current and former players like $700 in 2020. Can they make up that cash? Will going on a strike makeup for that? I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't just Smith that worked on the deal, it was the NFLA president and he deals with the reps off all 32 teams. This deal took months to come together.
My issue with it was 17 games was non-negotiable. That's stupid because that was basically their only negotiating chip. I would also be apposed to it being a 10 yr deal. Those should have been what they were pissed about IMHO.
