He's actually been pretty solid. But ya, he got abused last night
Actually, he got bowled over - I mean not holding the rusher up for even 1/2 a second - on that disheartening safety Seattle got in that horrible second loss to them! That was McGlinchey personified. I'm sorry, there's no whitewashing that. If the determined rush comes, I don't see any solidity from this scrub. Some players are just better than others, but how do some of them make it to the NFL? How many make it out of college? 5% or so among those who are resolved to play in the pros? I can't imagine Compton ever standing out in college. But I must be wrong: there he is starting on Garoppolo's right side! Sure, he doesn't get abused on every snap, but I've seen some embarrassing revolving-door occurrences! He's a liability in protecting a QB who himself consistently is a liability. I'm sure you guys held your breath too on those couple ducks to the side that could have been pick-6s!!! I'm thrilled with the final result, but it's become anti-climactic regarding the 'Bad Jimmy' moments. Questioning his WTF moments - like that pick last night when we got into the redzone (inside the 5 if not for the Trent holding call!) - is relevant to the scorpion and the frog, whereby the frog gives the scorpion a ride on his back across the stream and the scorpion stung him: "why would you do that? You're going to drown!" Scorpion's answer: "I just can't help it: it's MY NATURE!" Jimmy didn't throw it away in that 1st down when he escaped the pocket, but made a decision to throw a pass - which was fair-caught' by the defender no less - that was in his nature! He just has to keep doing it!
