I wish that Lynch and Shanahan would just use the 31st pick, our perhaps trade it for a 2nd rounder in ordered to get a quality guard whose specialty is pass protection. He needs to think about his QB and keeping him upright.

moves like this tell me that is what the plan is. this guy although being paid starter money is almost surely not being planned on being the starter in a year where we need an improvement there. they are planning on using a higher draft pick on the starter. either pick 31 or a high second.

Now that we have 2 first round picks Lynch and Shanahan are in a good position to score some great talent. At 13, I don't know where the need goes? BPA if we're able to resign Sanders, and WR if we don't.

We need to get a good guard, like we were saying, at 31. Having a guard who is actually good at pass protection next to Richburg would really help to solidify the OL.

We have MORE holes coming out of FA.

So hopefully they can turn that 13 and 31 into 6+ higher picks and find a starting G, 3T, XWR and top level developmental talent at T, C, CB, TE & ST...otherwise, we got worse.

ya we do need to get a good guard high but unfortunately we need a CB just as bad as we need pass pro. and we didnt address CB in FA. thats why i think we gotta turn one of our 1st rd picks into two 2nd rd pick an go OG, CB there. its really one of our only choices now.

Most definitely. That's not meant to bag on the non-moves thus far...just noting it'll now need to be done in the draft solely. It can still be done!

ya besides this move im actually liking our offseaosn moves so far. hard to agree with getting rid of your best DL but we got good value in return. if this move does end up being because they draft a guard high then this will be the right move. bringing a guy experienced in your offense to be your 2nd or 3rd stringer is about as good as you can get it. were not signing any top caliber guard FAs with the money we have right now so this was the best we could get probably.

we have alota draft value now with that buckner trade. if we can get like a 4th rounder in a trade for goodwin we could easily fill all our needs with a play maker at #13 and guys who can get on the field with the rest of the first few picks.

Sound advice. Your my boy blue!!!!!
Maybe we can totally nail this draft. That way, next year, we will be looking at guard early. I get Kyle's scheme and how he operates, but damn. It's not the signing of Compton. It's the pattern of just getting by at guard. Was Person done? I'm cool with Brunskill starting at RG going forward, but Compton for depth? Why not just keep Person?
This move is puzzling. Im not worked up by it but Im struggling to find a single reason to sign Compton for $3mil. Maybe that amount is being reported wrong? $3mil each for Breida and Bourne, now another 3 for this fella. Seriously might as well had paid E.Sanders instead.

$3 Million is an incentive figure.

e.g.,...a guy could have 2 offers on the table. With a couple other teams offering him $2 Million and $2.5 Million as a surefire roster spot should he be healthy.

The 9ers could easily say "if you're good enough to earn a spot and you really impress, we'll give you $3 Million." Not promising a spot but allowing him to compete for higher income.

Some guys would take the $2.5 with more of a guarantee,...others want something to fight for.....and as a team taking in players,...you'd love to have a roster filled with those types of players that play to prove their worth.

If we see him in camp and he is only worth $2.8 Million or so to us,...the deal is easily reworked or he is cut. He can go join another team for $2 Million or so if they're still open.

No harm, no foul.

Essentially,...you cant ignore possible incentives that get players in town that you maybe want to have a camp look at when you wonder "Why $3 instead of $2?"

How much do we save by releasing Person?
Won't be surprised if he's cut, Brunskill starts, Garland, Skule, a Rookie and Coleman are back ups.

Good call that's what LV said. Not the 1st with Jennifer. The pogo stick murder was classic

Definitely can see a promising rookie beating him out.
