Will the 2020 NFL season be canceled due to COVID19?

Lol the season isn't getting canceled

Well, if serious inroads are not made into the virus very quickly, you can be absolutely certain that it will be. All other sport, organised activity and recreation is at a standstill. Why do you think the NFL is any different?
I mean, yeah, this is true, but every other sport is planning on resuming. MLB is tentatively scheduled to come back underway in July/August. The NBA is also seemingly optimistic and fully-committed to having a playoffs this year.

Look at China: they're at the point where they're reopening stores and reopening amusements parks. So they're at what, 5 months from the November outbreak?

The latest modeling I saw is that the US epidemic is projected to tail off in June, and by early July there are going to be less than 10 deaths a day from this. It's totally possible that there could be a reemerging of this after summer, but that seems like complete speculation.

I think worst-case scenario they play a shortened season with no fans in attendance.

Firstly don't get me wrong, I am dying inside at the prospect of no NFL or NCAA football.

And I don't believe any figures etc coming out of China. But the other sports are just taking a guess. With the due respect to your president, he doesn't seem as committed as, say, the governments of Italy or Spain are to dealing with it if it interferes with his election prospects. And both Italy and Spain are continuing to deteriorate as is the UK. The epidemic in the US may start to tail off in June or it may not. The social distancing in Italy is way tougher than here or in the US and their death rate is still deteriorating. We really don't know what the future holds on this, but until I see either or both of Italy and Spain turning the corner I can see no reason for optimism here or in the US.

I don't know at what stage NFL teams will be reluctant to restart football bearing in mind there will have been no organised activities etc and they probably have a bunch of guys who are nowhere near match fit. Throw them in the deep end and we will be inundated with injuries.

The worst case scenario is, no football. There is nothing that guarantees the chance to play a reasonable season of football right now beyond hope and prayer. You nailed it towards the end when you said it's complete speculation. Right now, that is all we have.
If the season is cancelled, the NCAA will grant players an extra year of eligibility. Rookies that are drafted this year will not be able to work out but they will have extra time to study film and learn the playbook. Older players are going to suffer the most since you can't stop father time. Missing a season at age 35 is much tougher than missing one at 25 since it gets harder and harder to stay in shape. The prospect of no football really sucks but there may not be any choice.

It's going to be really costly to Brady. He will miss his last best chance for a good year. He keeps getting older. So I don't think future years will be any better.
It's also going to be costly for the guys who have a big payday year. Like Jimmy G. He won't get that year of pay if they cancel the season. Just lost forever.

Tough. More concerned about the guys on league minimum.

He also may not get that healthy off season to work with Kyle and his receivers. Another lost off season and he's a 30 year old coming into his second full season.
Why is this a thread?

Seriously.

The NFL wouldn't close it's doors for business if the actual black plague hit. Money is the #1 issue for the NFL. Not player safety and not public health.

At the moment it likely won't be their choice. Let's hope for the best.
For all of you who actually think the season would be canceled

Born: November 2, 1991 (age 28 years)

For those who can't do math he's 28... I mean people age this dude constantly. I don't get it.

He'll be 29 in November so if they cancel this season, he'll be a 30 year old in 2021 starting his 2nd full season. That's old to be starting your 2nd full year. My point is, he's not a rookie that can afford lost seasons. He already had one in 2018. For those that think the season will never be cancelled I say don't under estimate the power of the players union. If this virus isn't controlled by then do you really think they will want to be together in team meetings and workouts let alone traveling on a plane.
I actually don't think it's the player health angle that will stop the season. Quite simply it's the fans in the stadium. Do local officials let 80,000 people get that close for 3-4 hours? They wouldn't now. So unless you think the virus situation changes it won't be allowed in the fall.

Then the next question is do you play in an empty stadium. I think that would come across poorly and depressing on tv and an earlier commenter mentioned it flopped in Australia.

For those that can't fathom it or think there is too much money involved, look at the NBA season being canceled and the NCAA tournament. And how many thought 2 months ago this would be our reality now?
I think the High School, NCAA, and NFL football seasons will be canceled.

Humanity will screw this Covid-19 situation up 100 out of 100 times. The outcome will not be based on any one city, state, or country. Every human on earth will need to comply in order for us to get back to normal sooner.

Hopefully Pharma bails us out with a vaccine and/or treatment that works. If not, shelter in place will be the norm for quite a while.
No.

At the most, they will cut preseason games, delay the season about a month or two and play in half-filled stadiums for the first month or two after that.

I don't see the season getting cancelled or shortened, nor do I see the NBA/NHL playoffs getting cancelled. Way too much money on the line.

If the NBA/NHL playoffs get cancelled than that will be the first red flag/warning sign but that hasn't happened yet.
