Is this the "if you let up the distancing measures too early" wave or is this just an inevitable wave?

Asked again on contingency plans, and when the NFL would need to start looking at those, general counsel Jeff Pash said based on information they've gathered from experts and advisors: "We're pretty confident we'll be able to start on schedule."

That's for advertisers.
The reality is, there is no way any sports season will begin on time in early fall.
No way. No way ota's and training camp happen, and the season won't either.
We START getting back to normal if 2 things happen:
1) we find curative treatments for people with significant symptoms;
2) we find a preventive treatment like antibody infusion to reduce severe symptoms and spread rate.
Unless that happens, baseball is toast, football and hoops too.
NFLPA and owners need to sit down and figure out how to suspend contracts this coming year and how everyone will get paid a shadow salary.
100,000 deaths at 1.5% mortality implies 6.7m infected people. That's too many people to reduce social distancing, without drastically reducing the infectious qualities of the virus.

Probably wouldn't be a draft if no college season is played.

Yes, this is a scary time for all of us but I'm sorry some of the comments are absurd in here. Our own Governor Gavin Newsom has even said those projected numbers are crazy and Cuomo has said the apex is in two weeks from then on if people social distance the curve will flatten. The heat of the summer will kill it and yes it probably will reoccur, hopefully they'll be more prepared for the second wave but knowing who is in charge of our federal government, I highly doubt that. Numbers in California have already dipped due to stay at home. There have been under 5,000 deaths in the US and 46,000 worldwide. These numbers of 200-250 thousand in the US alone are probably a little ridiculous, it may not even hit that worldwide. The media has done their job in scaring everyone, but I would suggest listening to Newsom and Cuomo no matter what your party preference is.
NBA/NHL/MLB all have said they plan on finishing the season... I highly doubt the NFL is going to shut down for two years as some have been mentioned in here.

Up to 97 million in the US alone had it. There's only about 330 million people in the US..
Yet it Sure didn't shut down the country let alone the world.
"People" say this is "more contagious"..
lol... I'd like to see proof because for over 90 million in the US to get the bird flu, I'd say that's pretty contagious.
Again, not downplaying it, but the numbers that the media and idiots in office are throwing out should be stopped.
There are many different coronavirus's and "most" people carry a form of it. To test for covid-19, and be absolutely sure that is what killed someone, those tests need to be performed in a controlled environment.
This "quick tests" that are being used will show corona but doesn't specify covid-19, so again, who has it and who doesn't etc?
Misinformation sucks.
Let's hope things settle down soon...
Again, I'm not downplaying it, and I wish everyone who is sick & there loved ones well wishes.

I'm one of the more optimistic people when it comes to this and think a ton of people are way overreacting.
But 200,000 deaths worldwide is 100% a lock at this point. We're already at the point where we're getting several thousand deaths a day and it hasn't even peaked yet.
As for the U.S., I personally think the number will be somewhere between 300,000 to 500,000. If you think I'm being ridiculous, I've got a couple subreddits loaded with people insisting that the total deaths in the U.S. is going to be in the millions.
Sub-200,000 deaths in the U.S. would be a huge win at this point, honestly.

The mortality of h1n1(pdm09) was between .001 and .009.
The mortality of covid-19 is about 1.5%.
You do the math.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion this is mine. I'm just listening to people I trust in politics. You could be right it could easily hit that number worldwide, but as for the United States if everyone does their part here; those two I've mentioned have said that we could see good results. We will see what happens in the next few weeks.
I'm just saying that people saying that the NFL is going to be canceled for the next two years is just..Ugh, anyway I don't know I guess we'll just see how this turns out and hopefully everyone here stays healthy.

Way premature to say what the mortality rate is.. how many people that actually have it sat at home sick and never got tested? That would sway the data... make sense?
Again, right now any death & If they test positive with a coronavirus (& again there are multiple coronavirus strains & most humans currently have a strain in them), they are lumping it together as covid-19 when they do not know it is the covid-19.
This is coming from multiple medical directors, not the media.
