Seriously though, Dana walked into a similar situation (in a sense) that Kinlaw is walking into right now. The year before Dana was drafted, the team went 14-2, and Dana played next to Michael Carter, Dennis Brown and Ted Washington when Dana was a rookie, so the Dana Stubblefield comparison has some similarities to Kinlaw's situation.

Lol you're obviously joking but yea,...Stubb was seriously overlooked by alot of teams. We drafted him and Todd Kelly back to back IIRC, right? So sometimes you just get lucky when it comes to the draft,...let's be honest.

Agree, 49ers got lucky with Bosa, who plays next to Kinlaw. I think that combo could result in a similar situation to the Smith Brothers. Cowboy ate up the double teams to free Aldon. Like THL said, if Kinlaw can bull rush and draw doubles, and perfect the Cowboy method of holding the OLinemen to free up Bosa technique, it's going to be the NY Sack exchange revisited (Joe Klecko/Mark Gastineau duo). At least I hope so.

Fun tidbit: All four members of the Sack Exchange were drafted by the Jets in the 1970s. Salaam, a defensive tackle, was drafted in the 7th round (188th overall) by the Jets in 1976. Klecko, a defensive end, was a 6th round pick (144th overall) in 1977. Lyons, a defensive tackle, was a first round pick (14th overall) in 1979, while Gastineau, a defensive end, was selected with the Jets' second round selection in that draft (41st overall) -- their draft order was somewhat similar to our defensive line with Bosa, Ford, Kinlaw, and (Solomon/Arik/DJ Jones).

How is their draft order similar to ours? We literally have 5 1st rounders on our list.

That's what happens when you reach to fill a need instead drafting bpa.

Was he a need though? More of a luxury pick if you ask me, defensive line would of been among the last position groups that I considered us having "needs"
I see the 🤡's are out today.

They tried being cheap by not paying Buckner and trying replace him with a draft pick.

I think it kind of was a need pick. Otherwise Solly is the 3tech? Maybe they didn't need to pick DT with the #14 overall, but they needed to fill the spot vacated by Buckner. The 49ers don't want a very good DL, they want a dominant DL.
Bust??? No

.....

I'm just not counting on this guy to help out much year 1. More than 3 sacks would be an achievement for Kinlaw this year.

I get that they don't want a very good DL, they want a dominant one, that's my point, It's more of a luxury than a need. Solly was the #3 overall pick 3 years ago and never got a chance at the 3T because Buck was here. Between him and DJ Jones, who I think could also play 3T, along with AA, I didn't think we "needed" another one, certainly not with our first pick.

Haha that's what I was thinking as well. It seems like almost the complete opposite of ours

I suppose it's perspective but I see why you would consider it a luxury pick. If the 49ers felt they needed to keep the DL dominant, then they had to fill Buckner's role with the best prospect they could draft. If they are content with a good DL, then it's a luxury pick.
You can never rest in the NFL. Players come and go thru free agency, trades and injuries while opposing teams are building to attack you if your team is on top. Let that strength falter a little and the other teams will jump on it.
Most likely will be a two down player this year. That's what I was thinking when they made the pick and I will stick with that given the lack of offseason he had
