Kinlaw will be fine. So what he's getting beat in practice, I think that says more about the O-line than Kinlaw. Imagine if Kinlaw beat Tomlinson, people would be calling for his head.

It's not just Buckner. Even if Kinlaw never is as good as Buckner it's not a problem. If Armstead also fails to live up to his contract AND kinlaw falls far short of expectations (average-below average starter), then Buckner's shadow looms large. Remember, the calculus was Armstead + 1st rounder versus Buckner.
With that in mind, it's clear that Kinlaw is struggling a little in camp, otherwise Salah would not say that he's trying to find his way. That being said, Does it mean that he's going to bust just because he's struggling for the 1st week? Of course not. Players develop late all the time. But superstars often flash, even early in their careers. It makes it less likely that he plays at a pro-bowl level early on. This is not unexpected, but does dash the the most optimistic of hopes.
I do love how posters here freak out if you even dare suggest that Kinlaw's early camp struggles are a bad thing when projecting his future.

I'd strongly prefer for our 1st round pick to at least be regularly whipping our 5th round pick at the very least.

It's not that, he's trying all he knows which was overpowering and out-athleting people which, as he's finding out, won't work all the time. We all knew this so none of these early struggles should suprise anyone, people are just impatient around here

Well let's add some context tho,...
1) Is that the same interview where he said that he's improving every day?
2) Would you prefer that, year after year, our coaches put our top picks on a pedestal right away before they've arrived?
I think what Shanahan does is alot more effective. Don't needlessly talk them up,....no matter how much fans want to READ it. Keep them hungry and keep them working.

Why would the alternative be to put them on a pedestal every day? Did I ever say I had a problem with Saleh?
The alternative is for the rookies to crush it in camp.

Is that what I said? I'm saying that the likely reason he's not experiencing much success is because he's reverting back to what he's most comfortable doing as often is the case with rookies and maybe doing the opposite of what you are saying and trying to incorporate what is being taught. Pretty sure the media and maybe even the coaches say the same thing

There were people who thought Kinlaw was better than Buckner.

Yeah, he's learning on the fly - give him time to get it down. He'll be fine come game day.

The kid is raw and we all knew it since they drafted him.
Why is everyone acting so surprised?

He might end up being better than Buckner. Just not this year
