He needs to learn how to use all that bigness.

Foundation is there, he just needs snaps and coaching. We all knew he was raw coming out of college. We got the perfect DL coach to get him where he needs to be.

But Buckner was an all pro his rookie year.

I know right? He's already better against the run but he may never be as good as a pass rusher

NY is right, we have the right DL Coach, and we won't lose him, Kocurek has no want to be a HC or DC. He can really develop all of our DL, Bosa, AA, Ebukam, Kinlaw, Givens, Key, Hurst, Jones, Kerr, etc...

I'm guessing he will have between 5-6 sacks this year which is great

No, just no. This claim isn't rooted in factual logic sir :

Only 2 DT's had 10 or more sacks last year.

Only 7 DT's had more than 6 sacks last year.

DeFo has only had 10 or more sacks once in 5 seasons.

Nah, double-digit sacks for interior DL is an extremely difficult thing. Kinlaw just needs to show that he's getting better(by a lot). ~5 high-quality sacks where he dominates his opponent and a bunch of QB hits and pressures would be a great season for him.

Unfortunately, reading that he had knee issues last season is very disconcerting. This was a known issue about him coming out of the draft. A guy that big that struggles with pad level and has knee issues is a terrible combination.

Shocking...I had to add the guy to the ignore list. Nothing against him but just posts more to be "edgy" and "witty" vs actually adding to the threads.

Yeah, Kinlaw's main responsibility will be stopping the run and eating up double teams to allow the LB's to eat. It would be a bonus if he is a threat as a pass rusher too, if for nothing else to allow Bosa to play as much 1 vs 1 as possible. Kinlaw will be one of the interesting watches early in the season.

I don't think that's quite the case but the position is certainly not geared up for big time sack totals. It's another reason why trading Buckner made sense. Wide 9 is really made to feast for the ends. Now on pass downs it gives the DTs some favorable looks but overall I don't think it's a scheme where the DTs shine as pass rushers. It's great if you get the push from them and I'm confident Kinlaw will take a nice step forward there.

But paying a DT a ton of money when running the wide 9 seems like bad fund management unless that DT is Aaron Donald type. Buckner wasn't. And I'm confident if our roster was still crap and didn't have a lot of promising young talent who need to get paid at more impact positions Buckner would still be a 49er.

Team saw a SB window and tried their best to keep as much of the SB team together as possible while having solid depth and a plan to extend their elite guys - Kittle, Warner, Bosa

This will be the year we really see how the trade looks for our side(we know the Colts got themselves a great player and Buck was just what they needed)

Trading Buckner allowed us to draft Kinlaw, gave us extra ammo to trade up for Aiyuk and allowed us to sign several key depth players, some who turned into starters who are still on the roster - Verrett, Brunskill, Ward, Armstead

If Kinlaw and Aiyuk take a huge step forward as sophomores and the team stays healthy and we make another SB push...nobody should worry about Buckner anymore.

Kinlaw looks like a monster. I'm very excited to see him on the field with Bosa for a full season(and I pray we get to see that and a bunch of games in early 2022...like 4-5 of them)

That's not accurate--at least not in this system. This is a penetrating defense meaning Kinlaw's job is to attack. "Play the run on the way to the QB" is one of the heuristics used to teach this system. Kocurek doesn't want his IDL getting stuck on blocks. He wants them in the backfield.

Make no mistake about it: Kinlaw was drafted to rush the passer. You don't draft an interior DL 14th overall to stop the run. Those type of players can be found on day 3 or available off the street as FAs. Kinlaw was drafted because he possesses elite pass-rushing traits, and the team is banking on him eventually learning to use those traits.

This you?

"Bucko " Sucko " is a steady DT who many thinks has arrived as an All Pro.. but the truth is he's not even HALF WAY THERE yet ..."

"going back to the subject, NO ONE'S arguing how good of a STAR he is... but no, he is NOT a superstar..

last year was his "coming out" party, and this year, he needs to prove it if he's a SUPERSTAR.."

"... and when he lights it up this year, then he can be call a SUPERSTAR.. ..

.. no other excuses for him this year, right??"

You spent years arguing that he wasn't a superstar. And he wasn't worth top money. Now that he's gone, you want to call out the FO for letting a "Superstar" go. Cmon man
