You spent years arguing that he wasn't a superstar. And he wasn't worth top money. Now that he's gone, you want to call out the FO for letting a "Superstar" go. Cmon man

What a terrible take lol

Yeah, Kinlaw's main responsibility will be stopping the run and eating up double teams to allow the LB's to eat. It would be a bonus if he is a threat as a pass rusher too, if for nothing else to allow Bosa to play as much 1 vs 1 as possible. Kinlaw will be one of the interesting watches early in the season.

.. SO, we traded a SUPERSTAR for a player that need to stop the run ??

NO COMEBACK ??

That's not accurate--at least not in this system. This is a penetrating defense meaning Kinlaw's job is to attack. "Play the run on the way to the QB" is one of the heuristics used to teach this system. Kocurek doesn't want his IDL getting stuck on blocks. He wants them in the backfield.

Make no mistake about it: Kinlaw was drafted to rush the passer. You don't draft an interior DL 14th overall to stop the run. Those type of players can be found on day 3 or available off the street as FAs. Kinlaw was drafted because he possesses elite pass-rushing traits, and the team is banking on him eventually learning to use those traits.

Bingo.

Nah, double-digit sacks for interior DL is an extremely difficult thing. Kinlaw just needs to show that he's getting better(by a lot). ~5 high-quality sacks where he dominates his opponent and a bunch of QB hits and pressures would be a great season for him.

Unfortunately, reading that he had knee issues last season is very disconcerting. This was a known issue about him coming out of the draft. A guy that big that struggles with pad level and has knee issues is a terrible combination.

That may be the reason ShanaLynch went after Hurst. We'll just have to wait and see if Kinlaw's knee becomes a Dee Ford issue or not. I'm confident that they can get a DT in the draft to replace Kinlaw if his knee becomes an issue. They've been pretty good in the later rounds finding guys like Julian Taylor and dj Jones.

I think the bigger issue going forward is the DE pass rusher. Arden Key is unknown in our scheme, and Bosa is comming of a serious knee injury. I hope they will devote some draft capital next year to get better depth and possible talent at the DLine positions. But I like what they did in the offseason with the free agent DLine signings and i think they went that way because of a weak DLine rookie crop.
Way too many derps in the Niner fanbase calling Kinlaw a bust because of his sack total in his rookie year.

He has the physical ability to dominate, and he has the drive to be great. We all knew coming out of college that he was basically a raw, bull rusher type guy who needed to learn different pass rush moves. He will get there.

I think had more to do with the uncertainty around Kevin Givens assault case.

The knee issue was just a bone bruise. If that were an issue right now he wouldn't be participating in the offseason conditioning program

Yeah, it surfaced during the draft process that he had knee tendonitis. What we didn't know was that it flared up last year. That's not a good sign.
